Taking my child to a shogi tournament
Today was the day I had long promised to take my son to the JT TableMark Children's Shogi Tournament.
However, I had been feeling terrible, and I had almost given up on accompanying him today, but since my condition managed to recover, I decided to take him to the tournament despite knowing it would be a strain.
Although I was prepared for it, it ended up being a full day's work, and traveling by train with a child is exhausting, the venue was crowded, and there was nowhere to sit, so I had to stand the whole time, which drained quite a bit of my energy.
I was exhausted on the way home, and I think I must have looked unwell to anyone watching.
That said, my child was completely satisfied from start to finish. He lost in the morning block qualifiers and his chance to enter the main tournament was cut short early on, but he won many free games in the afternoon and got several erasers shaped like shogi pieces as prizes.
From the evening, there was the live JT Cup final match featuring the eight-crown champion Fujii, as well as the 'next move' quiz voting, so I ended up enjoying a full day of shogi myself.
Work finally resumes next week, but since I managed to get through this forced march, I'll probably be fine. ...Maybe.
However, I am truly exhausted, so I plan to collapse into bed after this.
