Take the initiative by offering counterproposals instead of waiting
When you encounter something difficult, it is important to say "I can't." However, when you end it with "I can't," there are two things waiting for you.
Either "I won't be asked again" or "How about doing it this way?"
Hello, this is Inamoto. I work in communication and information dissemination in Fukuoka. I regularly update my note daily and release a podcast once a week to share information every day. I would be happy if you could follow, like, or comment. Please also follow me on Twitter!
"I'll do better next time" doesn't work for "I won't be asked again"
Well, I think this is the professional world. If you're going to do better next time, do it now. I don't think someone who can't do their best now will be able to do their best next time... that is the professional world.
"How about doing it this way?" ends up putting a burden on you.
Of course, there is no doubt that this burden will be for your own good, but in a sense, it is a drastic measure, and it also has the potential to break you at times. It can be said that the situation hinges on whether the other party understands you.
Don't wait! Take the initiative and attack.
That said, if it's impossible, it's impossible. It is a fact that some things cannot be done. But it is certain that the other party has some kind of problem and is in a situation where they want to solve it. It might be something that someone other than you could do.
It is very easy to say the words "I can't," but as mentioned earlier, a not-so-good outcome awaits you (or you could say nothing awaits you).
It's about what words you should say after "I can't"...
Yes, it's the phrase "...but I think I could do it if I did it this way." Of course, that idea might be rough. However, by showing possibilities, the other party might come up with a different idea.
Don't stop communication by easily saying "I can't." That is the point. If you can say "...but if I do it this way...", the communication will continue.
There is no need to cut off communication yourself. (Although it is okay to cut it off if it is something you truly hate...)
Don't let the other party suggest counterproposals; you should offer them yourself.
By doing so, you can generate communication while also ensuring you don't let the other party take 100% of the initiative.
It's just a matter of taking the pace, but when you encounter something difficult, make it a habit to think, "It's difficult, but if I do it this way..."
That is a creative worldview.
