AI is convenient. But I've been thinking about how I want to use it properly
AI is truly convenient.
If you ask a question, you get an answer, it polishes your writing, and research is finished in an instant. Things that took time until recently can now be done with surprising ease.
That is precisely why I have started to wonder lately.
Am I using AI, or am I actually being used by it?
This is not an exaggeration.
It is just that because it is so convenient, I feel like there are more and more situations where I am using it without really thinking.
A sense of discomfort with the feeling of 'using it without thinking'
When you ask AI a question, it usually returns a plausible answer.
The language is polite and it makes sense. When you read it, you think, 'I see.'
But looking back later,
'Was I really convinced?''Was I just being swept along?'
Sometimes that feeling remains.
It is not that the AI's answer is bad.
In fact, I think it is quite excellent.
However, if you rely too much on that excellence,
you might inadvertently leave behind your own judgment or doubts.Sometimes that feeling remains.
I still think a minimum amount of study is necessary
With AI evolving this much, there are moments when I think, 'Maybe I don't need to study anymore.'
Honestly, I have felt that way more than once or twice.
Even so, as I continue to use it, I have come to think,
perhaps a minimum amount of study is necessary after all.
The study I am talking about here is nothing grand.
What is it that I don't understand?
Where is it that I am not fully convinced? Why do I feel uncomfortable with this answer?
Putting such things into words little by little.
I believe that is also a form of valuable learning.
If you don't study, you cannot choose the AI's answer
AI provides answers.
But whether that answer 'suits me' is something I have to decide for myself in the end.
To do that,
'This is useful,' 'This is not right for this time'you absolutely need a standard to be able to say such things.
That standard is not something you can get from AI.
I believe it is something you have to build up for yourself little by little.
Therefore, as AI becomes smarter,
perhaps the human side also needs a little bit of preparation.I have a feeling that is the case.
There is a strange paradox here.
As technology advances, what is required of humans also changes. There are even times when I feel it is actually increasing.
However, I don't feel that is a bad thing.
The value of thinking for oneself has been brought into sharp relief once again.Because that is one way to look at it.
An honest resistance to the word 'study'
To be honest, I get a little defensive when I hear the phrase 'I have to study'.
Sitting at a desk, opening a notebook, and psyching myself up.That image is what inevitably comes to mind first.
In reality, I'm not doing anything quite that grand.
I think while I research, go back if I don't understand, and then research a little more. It's just a repetition of that.
Even so, it is clearly different from doing nothing at all.
At the very least, I leave things 'unexplained' much less often than before.
Facing small questions in a small way.
Even just doing that, the scenery begins to change little by little.
Using it without understanding was what worried me the most
When I first started using AI,
I sometimes felt scared that I could proceed without understanding what I didn't understand.
The answer is there.
The form is polished. But very little remains within me.
When that state continues,
'Is this my own understanding?''Did I just borrow this?'
Such questions cross my mind.
Especially when I try to explain that answer to someone else.
When there is a moment where I get stuck for words,'Ah, I didn't really understand it after all,'
I realize.
That is precisely why I have started to pause a little,
and research or rethink things in my own way.
Honestly, I want to take it easy. But I don't want to leave everything to AI
To avoid any misunderstanding,
I don't want to struggle unnecessarily.
If I can, I want to take it easy.
I want to reduce tedious tasks. This is my honest opinion.
However, I feel that leaving the thinking process entirely to AI is wrong.
That is the one line I draw.
Because the act of thinking itself
leaves something behind within me.
Even if the conclusion is the same,
the feeling of something I reached on my ownversus something I simply received
is completely different.
I use AI as an aid for studying
So now,
it feels closer to using AI as an aid for my studies.
Having it break down words I don't understand,
having it organize my thoughts when I can't pull them together, and checking to see if my understanding is off.
AI is less like a "teacher who gives you the answers" and more like
a "partner to think with."
Thinking for myself.
But getting help when I get stuck.
That balance feels the most comfortable for me right now.
Sometimes, while throwing questions at the AI,
I find myself re-examining the question itself, wondering,"Wait, what was it that I actually wanted to know?"
Perhaps those moments are where the real meaning of interacting with AI lies.
At least, that is how I feel.
A sense of distance like training wheels
I often see the phrase "on equal footing with AI," but
in reality, it feels more like training wheels than being completely equal.
I am the protagonist.
I am the one who decides the direction.
It just supports me when I'm about to fall.
It slows down with me if I'm going too fast.
I am still in the middle of finding that sense of distance.
Maybe a day will come when the training wheels come off.
But for now, I'm still in the process. And I think that's fine.
Without rushing, but without stopping.
I hope to keep moving forward with that feeling.
The desire to use it properly
AI is convenient.
That fact will not change.
However, I feel it's a bit of a waste to just leave it at "it's convenient somehow."
Thinking properly,
choosing properly, and borrowing only what is necessary.
I also have to study.
But I can use AI even while I'm in the middle of that study.
I don't know if it's the right answer.
I am still in the middle of trial and error.
Even so,
the moment I decided I wanted to use it properly, I already took a step forward. That is how I feel as I face AI now.
Now that I have acquired a convenient tool,
I feel that the importance of thinking for myselfhas become even clearer.
