"I've never tried to be anyone else. I am who I am." / The Elephant Who Grants Dreams Practice Journal! #105
"I've never tried to be anyone else. I am who I am."
These words were left behind by Lemmy Kilmister, bassist for the legendary rock band Motörhead.
I believe these words contain a very important life lesson.
People tend to compare themselves to others.
I want to be like that person.
I want to be successful like that person.
I want to be valued like that person.
However, no matter how hard you try, you are who you are.
You cannot become someone else.
That is precisely why it is important to "live as yourself."
When I continue using social media and note, I also see popular and influential people.
Sometimes I think they are amazing.
However, there is no need to feel down about that.
That person has their own path, and I have mine.
The person you should compare yourself to is the you of yesterday.
Did you take one step forward from yesterday?
Did you grow more than yesterday?
Did you challenge yourself more than yesterday?
Life moves forward when you focus on that.
Lemmy didn't become a legend by imitating someone else.
He was loved by many precisely because he was Lemmy.
We are the same.
We should just walk our own lives while valuing our own uniqueness.
You don't have to force yourself to be someone else.
Your value lies within yourself.
Today, too, I intend to take one step forward as myself.
Today's Practice
"Turn the time you spend comparing yourself to others into time for growing yourself."
You don't need to be anyone else.
You are fine just as you are.
And you just need to keep polishing that version of yourself.

I am who I am!
"I've never tried to be anyone else. I am who I am."
— Lemmy Kilmister
When I first saw these words, they resonated deep within my chest.
Without realizing it, we live our lives comparing ourselves to others.
I want to be successful like that person.
I want to be able to speak like that person.
I want to be valued like that person.
Of course, having aspirations is not a bad thing.
However, in trying so hard to become someone else, we sometimes lose sight of who we are.
Ganesha also said:
"Don't compare yourself to others. Compare yourself to the you of yesterday."
The person you should really face is not someone else.
It is the you who has grown a little more than yesterday.
It is the you who has taken one step forward from yesterday.
That accumulation is what changes your life.
Lemmy was a rock star loved by the whole world.
But he didn't succeed by imitating someone else.
He moved the hearts of many as a result of sticking to the music he believed in and continuing to live as himself.
I, too, want to live my own life.
There is no need to become someone else.
There is no need to be perfect.
I just need to keep challenging myself in my own way.
It's okay to have days where you feel down from comparing yourself to others.
Even so, in the end, I want to say this:
"I am who I am!"
Accepting yourself and continuing to walk your own path.
I think that is the first step toward making your dreams come true.
Let's go a little beyond the yesterday version of ourselves today as well.
