Anger is not something to be suppressed [Super-Spirituality Monism: Practical Edition 6]
Anger is not something to be suppressed
For many people, anger is a "bad emotion."
・You shouldn't get angry
・You're an adult, so you have to endure it
・Being emotional is immature
That is how anger has always been treated as the villain. However, I will say it clearly here: Anger itself is not the problem.
Anger is a "notification," not a "danger signal"
Anger is not an emotion that emerges to destroy you. Anger is simply a notification.
・Something is off
・A boundary has been crossed
・Patience has reached its limit
It is just letting you know. You wouldn't smash your smartphone just because you received a notification, would you? Anger is the same.
The problem is "suppression" and "justification"
Anger becomes a problem when you resort to either of the following:
① Forcibly suppressing it
② Using righteousness as a weapon to lash out
If you suppress it, the anger does not disappear. It festers inside. If you justify it, the anger swells. It begins to attack the other person.
Both are states of "misusing" anger.
The true nature of anger is "fear"
If you look a little deeper, there is always another emotion beneath the anger.
・I was scared
・I wasn't treated with care
・I wasn't understood
Anger is the armor used to prevent further injury. Therefore, if you deny your anger, you are also denying the fear beneath it. That is cruel to yourself.
Anger should be "felt and let pass"
The correct way to face anger is neither to suppress it nor to lash out with it. Feel it, and let it pass.
・I am angry right now
・My body feels hot
・This is a strong energy
Observe it in that way. Then, the anger will naturally pass its peak and subside.
What anger teaches us
Anger always reveals your values.
・What you hold dear
・Where you want to draw the line
・What you want to protect
Anger is not an enemy, but a directional signal.
Practical points
When you feel anger, try asking yourself this: "What was it that I wanted to protect?" This is a question directed at yourself, not the other person.
With just that, anger will not turn into violence, but into understanding. You don't need to suppress your anger. But you don't need to be swayed by it either. Anger does not appear to destroy you, but
to return you to your true self.
