• Person A: Person B took it.

• Person B: I did not take it.

• Person C: Person A is telling the truth.

• Person D: Person C is telling the truth. And, either Person A or Person B is lying.

So, who is the werewolf (the liar)?

Answer/Explanation

I will now announce the correct answer.

The answer was "Person B".

First, Person C says,
"Person A is telling the truth."

If Person C is telling the truth, then Person A's statement,
"Person B took it."
also becomes true.

Then, the one who took the apple is Person B.

Looking at Person B's statement here, they say,
"I did not take it,"
so Person B's statement is a lie.

Furthermore, Person D says,
"Person C is telling the truth. And either Person A or Person B is lying."

If we consider that Person C is telling the truth, Person A is also telling the truth, and Person B is the liar, then Person D's statement also becomes correct.

In other words,

• Person A is telling the truth

• Person C is telling the truth

• Person D is also telling the truth

• Only Person B is lying

This is how it works out.

From this, we can see that the werewolf who took the apple is Person B.
