Sawa's Story 17: I Got Carried Away
My lumbar disc herniation made it difficult to walk,
and I tried various things like acupuncture, yoga, stretching, physical therapy, walking, and massage,
but in the end,
because the pain was prolonged and significantly hindered my daily life,
I chose to have surgery.
Looking back,
regarding this choice,
I have two feelings: regret that I should have been a little more patient and waited for improvement,
and the feeling that it couldn't be helped.

The surgery and rehabilitation are over.
Wow,
I can walk normally!
It doesn't hurt!!
It's okay to keep my back straight now!!!
No,
I can run!

And so,
I got carried away.
I started doing things that healthy people usually do,
like wearing heels, which I had no interest in before, walking intensely without taking breaks, and carrying heavy luggage without a second thought,
mistakenly believing that I could do these things "normally" too.
Just removing the affected area,
just getting rid of the pain,
does not fundamentally change the body!
It remains weak,
in a state where only the symptoms have disappeared.
I mistook that for being healthy,
and I got carried away.
As a result,
I ended up having the same surgery three times in my twenties.
