🎛 90s Techno-style Sound Logo Track ▶︎ Elektron Digitakt

On Saturday, February 22, 2025, at a traditional house over 80 years old in Kanan, Osaka,

"AMBIENT CHILL DAY"

will be held.

This live event is organized by the author,

and it is a
machine and electronic music event featuring 5 artists performing together

.

I will be performing first under the name NicaFelt, and since it's a special occasion, I decided to create a demo track to perform as a sound logo for the opening.

Alter/Ego I used a real-time singing synthesizer software to input the event title as vocals, then imported it into the Elektron Digitakt and inserted it into the track.

The sound direction is heavily influenced by my love for the

atmosphere of 90s techno

which comes through strongly.

In particular, I remember the shock that ran through my entire body when I heard KEN ISHII's "Extra" and thought, "These sounds are incredible!"

I was also shocked when I read an interview with him in a magazine where he said, "First, I initialize the preset sounds of the synthesizers I buy and create sounds from scratch."

90s synthesizers mainly used

PCM sound sources

that utilized sampled waveforms.

When I was a high school sophomore, I started sound design on the YAMAHA SY85 I bought for the first time in my life, but because I lacked knowledge, things didn't go as planned, and I

gave up many times

due to the sheer number of technical terms in the thick manual.

Even so, I read interviews with my favorite artists in magazines like Keyboard Magazine and continued to long for the day when I could freely manipulate synthesizer sounds.

A lot of time has passed since then, and after many years of making music, I have finally figured out how to create my own sound.

Due to the evolution of technology, the performance of electronic instruments has improved dramatically compared to the 90s, and the hardware has become lighter and more compact.

When a young techno-loving man realizes that he has now come closer to the songs of Ken Ishii, whom he once admired, using sounds he created himself,

it is a very deeply moving

experience.

I write many articles about music production tips on note, and the driving force behind them is the feeling that I am giving advice to my younger self,

who had just started making music
when I was a college student.

It feels like I am giving advice to myself.

Nowadays, high-quality information on music production is easily available for free, butback then, magazines and books were the only sources of informationand,

I spent my days in trial and error,
with no idea how to create the sounds that professionals were making.

It was a daily routine of trial and error without knowing at all.

Regardless of age, for those who are struggling with sound design just like I was back then, suggesting, 'This might give you a good atmosphere, what do you think?'is something that

I feel leads to helping my past self,

and I hope it will also be a reference for those who are currentlystruggling in the same way.

A track I made on a whim for an event

evoked the feeling of talking to my younger self,

and it resonated deeply in my heart, so I decided to write this article.

Thank you for reading.

▼ This is an event I am hosting!
