At 78, I realized it. Using AI as a family makes life and work easier.
"Isn't AI something for young people?"
I thought so too.
But when I, at 78, tried using it,
from meal planning, shopping, and sharing housework to children's studies and work communication,
the "little troubles" of family life became much easier.
Moms and dads are truly busy with housework, child-rearing, work,
and managing household finances,
and often end up in a daily routine of "wanting to do things properly but having no breathing room."
AI is a consultant that helps with those "little troubles" in everyday life.
That is why I wrote this article—not to make AI seem difficult,
but to use it as an advisor to increase family time and peace of mind.
In this article, I introduce, in an easy-to-understand way,
how moms and dads can use AI for their families starting today, both in life and at work.
Introduction
The goal of using AI as a family is not to "take the easy way out," but to "increase family time." Recently, I've been hearing the word AI a lot.
But I suspect many people feel this way:
• AI seems difficult
• Isn't it for young people?
• I feel like it has nothing to do with me
• Isn't it just for work?
Actually, AI is not difficult.
Rather, it is a support role for the family that helps with the "little troubles" in daily housework, child-rearing, and work.
1. The purpose of using AI as a family
It is not about doing things perfectly,
but about reducing the burden on the family.
And another important thing is for moms and dads to reduce the "time spent thinking,"
"time spent worrying," and "time spent researching" so they can increase the time they spend with their family.
For example,
• Time spent thinking about tonight's dinner
• Time spent making a shopping list
• Time spent worrying about how to teach children their studies
• Time spent wondering how to phrase messages to family
• Time spent drafting work emails or explanatory texts
AI significantly reduces these "small but daily accumulating burdens."
In other words, AI is
**not a replacement for the family, but a "tool to create time" to cherish the family.**
◆ How families can use AI in life and its benefits
In family life,
there are many small troubles that occur every day.
Most of them take up time in these four areas: "thinking," "deciding," "organizing," and "communicating."
AI is useful here.
1. Thinking about tonight's dinner
Meal planning is quietly difficult every day.
"What should I make..." There are days when just this is exhausting, aren't there?
Just by telling AI what is in your refrigerator,
it will immediately suggest a menu.
◆ Example
• Eggs • Cabbage • Pork • Tofu Just tell it these,
and ask, "Give me 3 dinner ideas for 4 people," and you're all set.
◆ Benefits
• Less stress over meal planning
• Less wasted groceries
• Prevents cooking ruts
• Creates more peace of mind
② Create a shopping list
Going to the store and thinking, "Oh, I forgot that..."
or conversely, "I didn't need this..." happens all the time.
With AI, you can create a shopping list
tailored to your family size and weekly schedule.
◆ Benefits
• Prevents forgetting items
• Prevents impulse buying
• Easier to manage food budget
• Less time spent at the supermarket
③ Visualize household chore distribution
A common source of family stress is
**"imbalance in housework."**
• Why is it always me?
• Well, I wouldn't know unless you told me
• I thought I did it
• Labeled as not having done it
This disconnect is very common.
If you consult AI,
you can create a chore distribution chart that is less likely to cause arguments.
◆ Benefits
• Visualization of housework
• Reduced dissatisfaction between spouses
• Easier for children to participate in roles
• Reduces "he said, she said" problems p
This is truly helpful.
It is quite effective at improving the atmosphere in the home.
Some days, it's more effective than a mediocre air purifier.
④ Support for children's studies
When parents try to teach, it often gets complicated or leads to frustration.
But with AI, you can specify, "Explain it so a ◯th grader can understand."
◆ Example
• Explain division so a 4th grader can understand
• Explain history simply for middle schoolers
• Explain how to memorize kanji in a fun way Benefits
• Reduces burden on parents
• Can provide explanations suited to the child
• Assists with independent study
• Reduces parent-child frustration
5. Making communication and check-ins with family gentler
When we're busy, our tone of voice tends to get harsh.
I don't really want to be angry.
I'm just tired.
But it still hurts my family.
👩 This is a common source of conflict in family chats.
AI is great at refining messages into a "gentle way of communicating."
◆ Benefits
• Less likely to cause friction
• Easier to understand
• Fewer misunderstandings between spouses and parents/children
• The content gets across rather than just the emotion
6. Planning family events and outings
Birthdays, trips, school events, dining out, visiting relatives...
They should be fun, but sometimes the preparation is exhausting.
If you consult AI, it can summarize:
• Packing lists
• Budgets
• Time management
• The flow of the day for you.
◆ Benefits
• Planning is easier
• Fewer forgotten items
• Less rushing around
• You have more "room to enjoy yourself"
7. Reviewing household finances
It's okay if you're not good at keeping detailed household accounts.
If you ask AI to "create a checklist for reviewing fixed costs," it can organize:
• Communication costs
• Insurance • Subscriptions
• Electricity
• Gas
• Unused services, and more.
◆ Benefits
• Wasteful spending is easier to spot
• You know where to review
• It provides material for family meetings
• It leads to peace of mind for the future
👩 How family members can use AI for work and the benefits
What I mean by "using it for work" here
is not just about making work more efficient.
If mom and dad's work becomes a little easier,
they will have more energy to devote to their family.
This is the essence. If you are exhausted from work, you have nothing left to give when you get home.
That is precisely why AI can be used as a tool to reduce the "wear and tear" of work.
1. Correspondence
・Emails
・Drafting LINE messages quickly. Writing is something that surprisingly takes up a lot of time at work.
• Contacting customers • Guidance on schedule changes • Thank-you messages
• Confirmation messages. If you have AI create a draft, you can save a lot of time.
◆Benefits
• Reduces time spent writing
• Reduces hesitation over phrasing
• Makes it easier to create polite text
• Reduces work stress
2. Making explanations easier to understand
Service details and work explanations may be obvious to you, but
they can be difficult for the other person.
AI is good at rephrasing technical terms into simple language.
◆Benefits
• Easier for customers to understand
• Reduces misunderstandings
• Increases trust
• Leads more easily to contracts and agreement
3. Work planning
・Creating checklists. On busy days, it is easy to miss things.
Just by having AI create a "daily checklist," "preparation list," or "confirmation items,"
it makes a big difference.
◆Benefits
• Prevents mistakes
• Prevents forgetting items
• Stabilizes work
• Can also be used for training new employees
4. Flyers
・POP
・Thinking of words for SNS posts. This is truly powerful.
Especially for: • People running shops • People holding classes in the community
• People announcing events
• People posting as a side job, it is a perfect match.
・Catchphrases
・Fast at creating drafts for posts.
◆Benefits
• Prevents running out of ideas
• Makes it easier to continue posting
• Can be used for attracting customers
• Becomes a foundation for refining into your own words
・Teaching
・People with the ability to convey information are especially strong.
There is no need to have AI do everything.
Draft with AI → Finish with your own experience. This is the strongest approach.
5. Using it for drafts of note articles or blogs
"I have things I want to write, but I can't organize them."
This is a problem for almost everyone. AI is good at
• Title ideas
• Heading structure
• Introduction
• Summaries
• Organizing bullet points.
◆Benefits
• Easier to start writing
• Easier to continue
• Lowers the hurdle for posting
• Makes it easier to turn your experience into value
This is truly the first step to turning experience into income.
6. Thinking of side hustle ideas
I want to think of ways to supplement the household income.
But I don't know where to start. AI is useful in times like these, too.
Just by sharing your experience
・strengths
・hobbies,
you can organize the direction of a side hustle that suits you.
◆Benefits
• It's easy to see the direction that suits you
• It's easy to avoid unreasonable side hustles
• It's hard to burden your family
• It's easy to start small
Important points to note when using AI as a family. This is
a part I definitely want to convey. AI is convenient.
But it is not a 100% correct teacher.
It is dangerous if you misunderstand this.
◆Things to be careful about
1. Do not take it at face value. AI can make mistakes in a plausible way.
2. Do not enter too much personal information. Be careful with addresses, phone numbers, account information, school names,
details of illnesses, etc.
3. Always check money, health, and contracts. • Medical • Insurance • Contracts • Taxes • Legal. Always have these checked by a professional.
4. Use AI as a "drafting assistant." The final decision is made by a human. This is important.
◆Summary
AI is not a substitute for family, but a tool to cherish family.
When people hear that, they tend to have an image of
amazing technology, something difficult, for young people, or exclusively for work...
But in reality, AI can be used in more familiar places.
• Thinking of menus
• Making shopping lists
• Visualizing household chores
• Explaining children's studies simply
• Softening communication with family
• Saving time on work documents
• Creating drafts for posts and side hustles
Just by using it in these ways,
the daily burden will be significantly lighter. The important thing is not to feel guilty about using AI to make things easier.
Making things easier is not the same as slacking off.
It is a way to save time and energy for your family.
That is why moms and dads don't need to aim for perfection.
Start with just one thing. It could be tonight's dinner.
It could be a shopping list. It could be a work email.
"Try using it once." Just by doing that,
AI changes from a "difficult thing" to a "useful partner."
The more you work hard for your family, the more AI will be your ally.
◆Finally
AI is not something that steals family time, but something to use to reclaim family time.
When used with this perspective, AI becomes a much more familiar and gentle tool.
