Love-struck Lemon [Short Story]
The droplet, launched as if bouncing off the lemon, flew straight and true, striking Yayoi directly in her left eye.
Ouch!
Whoa, sorry!
It happened in the shade of a large ginkgo tree during a break in soccer practice. Yayoi, the soccer team manager, was handing out homemade sports drinks containing slices of lemon to each of the players.
Here you go, Shota!
Oh, thanks.
Shota took a slice of lemon from his white paper cup and bit into it with a squish.
Huh? You're eating the lemon too...?
Squish.
Because Shota bit into it with such force, Yayoi became the victim of the lemon's juice.
Ouch, it stings!!
Tears that could rival the citric acid of the lemon welled up and spilled from Yayoi's large left eye.
Oh, sorry, sorry. Let's go to the water fountain to wash your eye!
Shota handed his towel to Yayoi and took her hand as she held her left eye in pain.
It's okay, it's okay.
Someone was watching intently as the two of them made their way across the scorching midsummer sun to the outdoor water fountain in the corner of the field.
This is it!!
・
The next day, Rumiko, the baseball team manager, brought the sports drink she had learned about from Yayoi.
Kensuke, here!
Oh, thanks.
Kensuke put his mouth to the paper cup and was about to gulp down the entire sports drink at once.
No! Kensuke, you have to eat the lemon too!
Rumiko said, panicking.
The lemon too?
Yes, it's good for your body.
Oh, really? Well, it's sour, though.
(Yes, that's it!)
Rumiko opened her narrow eyes, which were different from Yayoi's, as wide as she possibly could.
(Come on, do it! Come on, citric acid!)
Chomp!
Squish!
The unerring droplet did not trace a parabola but flew in a straight line
Ah, ouch!! What are you doing!! Kensuke, you jerk!!
It struck the left eye of Futoshi from the sumo club, who happened to be passing in front of the baseball team's bench.
Futoshi-senpai!! I, I'm so sorry!
To Rumiko, Kensuke's back as he rushed over in a panic looked like it was bouncing.
And so, a big couple was born over the course of two days at XX Prefectural Kandagawa High School.
The sports drink passed down by Yayoi was named "Love-struck Lemon" and is still passed down as a secret drink among the managers of the sports clubs.
It is unknown whether Rumiko, who is now an office worker, still makes "Love-struck Lemon," but
that day, Yayoi said,
Listen, Rumiko, when you give this drink to someone, keep eye drops hidden in your pocket.
What do you mean?
Just watch me tomorrow.
Yayoi closed her left eye and winked.
Rumor has it that she keeps eye drops on her at all times, or maybe she doesn't...
The End
I will be participating in Kosuke Komaki's project.
Thank you for your support.
I'm not good at comedy either, ah-ha♪
