I want to eat an eclair
A work participating in the Amano Writing Club project
Preface
A small, heartwarming event that began the moment I suddenly thought, "I want to eat an eclair" while going out to buy lunch.
This is a true story from yesterday, written like a tangerine diary.
The small bakery run by an old lady was open quietly in a corner of town again today.
Main text: I want to eat an eclair
I wonder if it's open today?
When I stopped by the old lady's bakery, it was open.
When I entered the shop, there were only two sandwiches left.
I was in the mood for a rice ball today, so I thought maybe I should skip it... but the moment I thought that,
a cream puff and an eclair in the display case caught my eye.
50 yen each.
At a price that is unbelievable these days,
I muttered to myself, "You're losing money at this price, aren't you?"
Thinking I would buy them as a snack for my colleagues at work,
a Cream Puff vs. Eclair decision battle took place in my brain.
The winner was... the cream puff.
I felt like the eclair slumped its shoulders just a little bit.
"I'm sorry. Next time, I will definitely come to pick you up, eclair."
While eating the old lady's gentle-tasting cream puff at work,
when I imagined the eclair in the back of the display case
"I'll be waiting"
saying that,
the taste of the cream puff felt just a little bit salty.
Afterword
The 50-yen eclair and cream puff.
It felt like they were wrapped not just in price, but in a kind of nostalgic "kindness."
I think I'll go buy the eclair next time.
I hope the old lady's bakery continues for a long time... that was the kind of event that made me feel that way.
I wrote this for the Amano Writing Club prompt.
Amano-san, thank you for the prompt.
