Hearing the phrase 'There are no holidays in June'—it suddenly made me wonder,
'Do cats have holidays?'
Hyunu-kun gazes quietly at his owner, Mikan.
The loneliness of not being played with, and... a small hope.
This work is a quiet petition from a cat who works hard every day at the 'job of healing'.

Main Text: A Cat's Holiday Application
Mikan Katagiri
June has no holidays; that is a human world thing.
I am Hyunu, the cat who lives with Mikan.
Will you listen to my troubles?
Mikan hasn't been playing with me lately.
Every morning, every night, and on holidays, she is as intimate with her computer as if she were in love with it, sometimes even grinning at it.

When I go to peek at the computer, wondering why she's having so much fun, Mikan closes it immediately.
And when I go over again after she opens it,
she pushes me away as if to brush me off,
so I resist too.
The 'Mouse Tail Strategy' (making it so she can't use the mouse)
Then, the 'Bite the Computer Strategy' (the computer is hard and my teeth are...)
Then, Mikan closes the computer again and goes somewhere else.
I've been holding onto the faint hope that she'll play with me for a while now...
And every time, I realize it won't come true.

If I were to give Mikan a nameless holiday as a gift,
would she play with me all day long?
And then, maybe we could nap together (oh, wait, no, Mikan talks in her sleep, I don't know what it means, but something about world domination with ChatGPT...)

Humans assume that every day is a holiday for me, but
I just don't have holidays like humans do.
I have a job, you know,
my role is to heal humans.
I think it's fair to say I have no days off, 365 days a year.
You see, I like fireworks.
When a big firework goes 'boom' in the night sky,
it relieves my stress, and I feel like I can forgive Mikan.
I'm not in the Pet Cat Association, but I intend to apply next time,
to ask them to please give cats holidays too...

📝Afterword
The theme this time was 'A Nameless Holiday'.
The first thing that came to my mind was,
a very small question: 'When does Hyunu get to rest?'
While I'm writing, he curls up in front of the computer, comes to peek at the screen, or quietly messes with the mouse.
This is a story that feels like it was written directly from that 'cat's perspective' of our daily life.
There might be someone 'spending a nameless holiday' near you, too.
