The Identity of the Mysterious Letter
A submission for the weekly short-short note project
Preface
A letter found in my mailbox.
Written on it were words that seemed to have meaning, yet didn't.
Is this a mysterious letter, or perhaps—.
Main Text
There was a letter in my mailbox labeled "Mysterious Letter".
When I opened the envelope,
It said,
"Half of a mysterious letter is made of vegetables."
It truly is a mysterious letter itself.
This must have been written by the lady next door.
She runs a greengrocer.
She is always muttering strange things to the unsold vegetables.
"You aren't unsold goods. You're just not known yet.
"
I live alone.
I don't cook.
Therefore, I never buy vegetables.
Even so, the "mysterious letter pickles" the lady makes are delicious.
She makes overnight pickles from unsold vegetables and sells them at the storefront.
The price is 1,000 yen.
When I asked, "Isn't that expensive?"
The lady said,
"What are you talking about?
Shining a light on the unsold in this world.
That is what this price is for."
For some reason, these 1,000-yen pickles sell out as soon as they are put out.
I was curious, so I bought some.
Then, the description of the pickles was—
Believe it or not, it was a "mysterious letter."
If you solve the mystery,
it seems you can get more mysterious letter pickles, this time for free.
I have fallen into this trap. (435 characters)

Afterword
The identity of the mysterious document was
unsold vegetables,
and the words of someone trying to shine a light on them.
Now, what kind of mysterious document will arrive next?
