I love the Korean variety show Three Meals a Day
I love the variety shows produced by Na Young-seok PD of tvN. Not only is the content interesting, including the show's premise and small gags, but I am always impressed by his sense of casting.
He has produced numerous shows such as the 'Grandpas Over Flowers' series, 'Three Meals a Day', 'New Journey to the West', and 'Youn's Kitchen', but the one I like the most is definitely 'Three Meals a Day' (삼시세끼)!
Among them, I especially love the series featuring the trio of Cha Seung-won, a.k.a. Cha-jumma (surname + ajumma (middle-aged woman)), Yoo Hae-jin, and Son Ho-jun (sometimes with Nam Joo-hyuk).
Cha Seung-won is calm and composed, always cooking delicious meals quickly and silently like a mother, while naturally and kindly looking after others and keeping an eye on how they are doing.
Yoo Hae-jin, whose dad jokes are his specialty, creates an incredibly friendly atmosphere; he is always busy doing various tasks and is the go-to person for DIY projects.
Son Ho-jun, the youngest, is quiet but always thinks several steps ahead and perfectly supports his seniors.
It is just a show about making and eating three meals a day, but for many modern people, including the cast members, a day where you can focus solely on cooking is actually quite extraordinary.
Perhaps that is why we find healing in the peaceful, ideal 'daily life' captured on screen.
Moreover, the three of them are truly like a family, and I just find myself smiling at the words they exchange and the delicious-looking food. Am I the only one who feels that even the ordinary meals I eat taste better when I watch this show while eating?
