A Moment of Connection Lit During the Short Time of Drop-offs and Pick-ups
Saturday at the supplementary school.
The day begins with a "Good morning" greeting to the parents in front of the classroom.
Unlike full-time schools, it is common at supplementary schools for parents to drop off and pick up their children right at the classroom door. Because of this, the time we spend face-to-face with parents has become an essential part of our daily routine.
Over this past year, how much have I been saved by those brief moments of standing and talking?
"Teacher, my child has started practicing kanji on their own at home."
"They came home saying that last week's class was so much fun."
Words like these, where you directly share the small changes in your child's growth.
The warm words of appreciation at the end of the term, such as "Thank you so much for everything this past year."
A supplementary school is a place that can only function when the home and the school work together in tandem.
You carve out time from your busy weekdays to oversee homework, and on Saturday mornings, you encourage your children as they rub their sleepy eyes to head out the door. Because I see that hard work up close, your "thank yous" have been the greatest reward, worth more than anything else.
This past year, we shared the joy of the children's growth and, at times, shared our concerns.
To all the parents who accepted me as their child's teacher and supported me, I offer my heartfelt gratitude.
Thanks to your warm words, I have been able to reach the end of the school year safely and with a refreshed spirit once again.
