Actual costs incurred for a 10-day hospitalization for SLE
After being discharged, the thing I was most concerned about was money.
Before I was hospitalized, I was anxious about how much it would cost, but honestly, I couldn't really imagine it.
I would like to summarize the actual costs I incurred for my 10-day hospitalization this time.
I hope this will be helpful for those who will be hospitalized in the future.
In my case, the cost for a 10-day hospitalization was
178,067 yen.
This is the amount after using the Certificate of Maximum Amount Application.
Since I was hospitalized in a shared room (with no extra bed charges),
I did not incur any additional charges for a private room or similar.
Also, I used the pajama rental service for only one week,
and that cost was about 2,800 yen.
Since I did not have insurance,
this entire amount is out-of-pocket.
My honest impression is,
that while it was lower than I expected, it is still expensive.
In addition to hospitalization costs,
- Purchase of daily necessities
- Small snacks
- Transportation expenses
These small expenses also added up unexpectedly.
And to be honest,
I found myself wishing I could receive the intractable disease benefits as soon as possible.
Considering that I will continue to have outpatient visits and medication costs,
I truly feel the value of these support systems.
What I want to tell those who will be hospitalized in the future is,
that you should consider not just the hospitalization costs themselves, but also the incidental expenses.
And, I recommend preparing the Certificate of Maximum Amount Application in advance.
Hospitalization costs vary greatly depending on the illness, treatment details, and length of stay, so I cannot say for sure,
but I hope this serves as a helpful reference.
