Do you have trouble generating beautiful fingers with Midjourney or other AI image generators?
I've been thinking about the finger problem for a long time...
I've discovered some things through various hypotheses and image generation tests, so I'd like to share them with you.
I've spent dozens of hours thinking and repeating the image generation process.
I will summarize everything I know now.
Why can't fingers be generated beautifully in the first place?
Of course, it's simply because it's a weak point for AI, or it's complex and difficult to generate...
However, I returned to one fundamental point.
The common sense that a hand = 5 fingers does not apply to AI!!
For AI, based on a large amount of data, human hands often have five fingers. That's all there is to it...
AI has no common sense or fixed ideas.
Therefore, when a human with "6 fingers" is generated:
Human: Why? But AI: It's not a failure.
That's it.
When I realized this, a prompt came to mind.
Wouldn't it be better to specify the hand in detail?
Like, "It has 5 fingers!"
For example, when specifying hair, you specify the color and hairstyle.
Prompt example: pink bob hair
Similarly, for hands, you specify that this person "has 5 fingers."
I believe it is difficult for AI to determine that a human = 5 fingers in the first place, and for example, it becomes difficult to meet the demand for generating humans with 6 or more fingers for horror themes.
Therefore, when a human is specified in a prompt, it is designed to generate something human-like in most cases.
You can see this by looking at the progression of Midjourney from v1 to the latest v6.1.
In character generation, it has becomemore human-likefrom v1 to v6.
Up until about v1 to v3, even the faces were distorted.
From about v4, it evolved rapidly and became a human-likeface.
From this trend, simple prompts (e.g., human) haveimproved the quality of generation results based on a large amount of data.
Therefore, the content described in this article will likely be resolved by the evolution of AI image generation.
In Midjourney, V7 is getting a lot of attention, so I hope the finger problem will also be updated (I'd like to hope so)!

It's a good image, but the fingers are broken.
