The story of how I tried Ega-chan's beer and found it surprisingly mellow
I tried "EGA BEER," which was co-developed by Asahi Breweries and Egashira 2:50.
Honestly, this was my first impression when I saw it.
"Wow, the can is really loud."
Red, white, silver, and black. E-G-A-B. Just sitting on the beer shelf, it's already shouting.
Is this just a gimmick? Is it the type of product that relies on Ega-chan's momentum to sell out?
That's what I thought when I bought it. I apologize. The contents were actually quite decent.
Conclusion after trying it: It's not bad. In fact, it's quite easy to drink.

To start with the conclusion, EGA BEER is not a bad beer. It is quite easy to drink.
However, it's not an incredibly edgy beer either.
Since it's an Ega-chan collaboration, I expected it to be more aggressive on the tongue. A blast of bitterness. Super sharp. An aftertaste of black tights.
I was imagining something like that, but in reality, it's quite mellow.
The flavor is the type where acidity and sweetness gently overlap. There is bitterness, but it's not too strong. The mouthfeel is smooth, and overall, it leaves an impression of having few rough edges.
Contrary to Ega-chan's image, the taste is actually quite well-behaved. That's what makes it a bit interesting.
Is it like Super Dry? That's a bit different.

According to the official information, it uses the same yeast as "Super Dry."
So, before drinking it, I imagined a much sharper aftertaste.
But when I actually drank it, it wasn't entirely focused on the sharp finish like Super Dry. If anything, it's the type that leaves behind acidity, sweetness, and a light richness.
The finish is also a bit sweet. Rather than cutting off sharply, it lingers softly.
This is where opinions might be divided.
For those who say, "Beer is all about the sharp finish!" it might feel a bit lacking. Conversely, for those who dislike beers that are too bitter or too dry, I think it's quite easy to drink.
How were the foam and aroma?

The color is a deep golden hue.
It has a slight cloudiness, but it doesn't feel heavy.
The foam is average.
However, the foam retention is on the lower side.
It rises reasonably well the moment you pour it, but it's not the type you enjoy for a long time.
The aroma leans towards fruity.
There is a hint of nuttiness mixed in.
Rather than an intense hop aroma, it's a gentle scent that makes you think, 'Oh, this looks easy to drink.'
It doesn't feel like it's attacking you with its scent.
This part is also mellow, as expected.
Even though it's Ega-chan Beer, it's mellow overall.
I wouldn't have minded if it were a bit more wild.
Personal evaluation
EGA BEER is not a beer that ends with just being a topic of conversation.
It might look like a gag, but you can actually drink it properly.
In fact, it's actually quite good.
However, if you ask me if the taste is incredibly memorable, that's where it falls a bit short.
If there had been one more accent in the aroma, bitterness, or crispness, I think I would have been more impressed.
But, it's definitely a solid choice for drinking at home.
It becomes a conversation starter the moment you take the can out.
It's enjoyable to drink as well.
The price is also easy to try.
I think this is a bottle that will really liven things up if you have it for a weekend drink at home.
Summary: A beer where drinkability wins over the Ega-chan vibe
Contrary to its intense appearance as an Ega-chan collaboration, EGA BEER was a very easy-to-drink beer.
It has acidity and sweetness, with restrained bitterness.
More mellow than crisp.
More drinkable than sharp.
If asked if it's bad, it's not bad.
If asked if it's good, it's actually quite good.
However, if you expect an intense personality just like Ega-chan's image, you might find it a bit tame.
I drank it thinking it was a gag, and it's frustratingly well-made.
That's the kind of beer it was.
