Why I started NOTE at 58.
Nice to meet you.
I am **Masa | A guy in his 50s, currently updating.**
Now that I am 58, I find myself thinking about something.
When I walk through the city,
"I wish there were more people in their 50s enjoying life."
That is something I often feel.
Of course, I don't mean having a lot of money or wearing expensive clothes.
It's about enjoying fashion in your own way as you age, trying new hobbies, or laughing with friends.
"This person is really enjoying life."
I think people in their 50s who make you feel that way are truly wonderful.
That is why I want to be that kind of adult, too.
That is the reason why I started this NOTE.
I have always loved fashion.
I am 163.5cm tall. I am certainly not tall.
That is exactly why I have always thought about "how I can look even a little bit cooler." I have enjoyed suits and vintage clothes in my own way, not through expensive brands, but through my own ingenuity.
Recently, I have also been hooked on cooking.
I rarely make anything by looking at just one recipe. I like to compare several recipes and create my own while experimenting, thinking, "Maybe this way is the most delicious."
I also started playing the piano again in my 50s, which I learned as a child.
I became able to play Elton John's "Your Song," and I gathered the courage to try street piano. Now, I am practicing "LA・LA・LA LOVE SONG."
I played soccer in college, and now I am running on a full-size pitch again in the Tokyo Senior League.
Strength training has been a long-time hobby of mine, but I am currently recovering from shoulder surgery. It is precisely because I cannot move my body as I would like right now that I am once again feeling the gratitude for the time I have to be healthy and do what I love.
I do not have any special talents.
I am not living a luxurious life either.
However,
Aging in your own way without spending money or pushing yourself too hard.
I believe that is a way of life anyone can achieve.
In this Note, I will write about ideas and challenges that make my daily life in my 50s a little more enjoyable, such as fashion, cooking, piano, guitar, senior soccer, and training.
Rather than teaching anything, I want to write about what I felt, where I failed, and what went well as I actually tried things, just as they are.
After reading this article,
"Maybe I'll try paying a little more attention to my clothes."
"Maybe I'll try learning one new recipe."
"Maybe I'll try starting that hobby I used to do again."
I would be happy if even one more person felt that way.
Your 50s are not an age to give up on anything.
I believe it is an age where you can continue to add new joys while making the most of your past experiences.
Your 50s are still interesting.
Let's update ourselves together.
