The boundaries I drew to keep my heart calm even when the house is messy
Hello, this is Saeru Kokoro.
This morning, my middle school son's gym clothes were lying on the floor.
He left them there when he got home from school yesterday.
I said to my son, "[Name], your gym clothes are still on the floor."
My son, who was reading a book, just replied with a grunt.
I'm sure in his mind, he thought he would take them to the laundry later.
And I also said, "Well, tomorrow is a day off, so I guess it's fine."
Basically, I don't do things that my family members can do for themselves.
So, the gym clothes are still left where they were.
I'm sure you'd think the house isn't tidy. Yes, it isn't.
But it's not something I have to do.
Before I knew it, I had convinced myself that it was natural for me to do everything,, and I had been gradually building up a feeling of being forced to do things.
But doing everything by myself cannot last forever.
First, by deciding to only do things when I feel like it and have the capacity,
even though the house is messy, I've gained peace of mind.
I was worried that if I stopped doing the housework, my family would complain, but no one said anything.
I was able to realize that this means I have successfully drawn my own boundaries.
Do you also have boundaries you've drawn with your family?
