New Zealand is an island nation floating alone like a mole in Oceania.
It is famous for having no venomous creatures or wild beasts that attack humans.
Because of that peacefulness, the native birds have even evolved to lose their ability to fly.
However, there are a few creatures you must be careful of.
The white-tailed spider is one of them.

It was an incident that happened one weekend.

When I returned home after finishing the grocery shopping, my husband had prepared lunch for me.
Though, it was just leftover pizza from yesterday.

He had put it on a plate so I could microwave it as soon as I got back.
While I was putting away the groceries, I couldn't resist snacking on one slice,unable to hold back. While the remaining two slices were in the microwave, my husband left the kitchen.

Because I was being ill-mannered and eating while doing other things, a pizza topping fell off and landed on the floor. I glanced at it, and while making sure not to step on it, I didn't stop my 'pizza-while-doing-other-things' routine.

If only I had paid proper attention to the fallen topping at that time. That is what I think.
Or, perhaps it was better that I didn't look at it.
While I was at it being ill-mannered, I left what was likely a mushroom that had fallen on the floor alone until I finished putting away the groceries.
I thought I would pick it up and throw it away after I finished everything...

The microwave beeped just as I finished putting everything away.
I had about two bites left of the pizza in my hand. Being the sloppy person I am, I picked up the topping from the floor while stuffing the rest into my mouth.

My husband, who had been watching that whole sequence of actions, suddenly let out a scream.

SPIDER～～！！！！！！！

Unlike me, my husband is afraid of spiders. I look around, feeling a bit exasperated at how he reacts quite sensitively to spiders crawling in the corners of walls and floors, thinking, "He's so dramatic." After all, I'm the one in charge of chasing them away.

It must have snuck into the shopping bag I left in the car. Was it hunger, the heat, or just old age?
