[Diary] A Fruitless and Beautiful Leap
When we went to Miyakojima, my 8-year-old son turned into a machine that just keeps jumping into the pool.
It seems he has his own ideal way of jumping,
and he is jumping over and over again in pursuit of it.
It is a sensation unique to him,
something no one else can understand or coach him on.
That is why there is no end to it.
A pursuit that leads nowhere continues.
If anything, it might be a fleeting sparkle that exists only in this moment on this day,
and I might be watching a third-grader captured by the desire to recreate that sparkle.
And yet, it feels like something beautiful.
Leaps of fruitlessness and beauty are filling up my camera roll.
Because he tells me to take a picture every single time.

(Pools where jumping isn't prohibited are rare these days, aren't they?)
