The story of how I ended up running a cram school that perfectly fits the tagline 'Kids who didn't fit in at other schools, come here!' Part 3

We decided to start a cram school called 'Bottou & Yohaku' (Immersion & Space), and I thought,
'Let's start with a free trial session.'
I reached out to my mom friends during spring break,
and we decided to hold a free trial.
A total of about six children, including my daughter's classmates and their siblings,
participated in the free trial.
The junior high students hadn't decided on their clubs yet,
and their tests were still a while away.
In the end, they decided to hold off for now,
so my daughter was the only one starting in the spring.
Even though it was a cram school, it was basically like having a private tutor.
It was an incredibly luxurious start.
I felt too guilty leaving it like this, so I thought, 'I have to gather more students somehow!'
When I told Mr. Y, 'Let's make a flyer and put it up,'
the flyer he came up with didn't convey his strengths at all.
So, I took everything we had discussed and asked,
'Is it okay if I remake the flyer to better convey your strengths?'
I took the liberty of creating this flyer with the tagline,
'Kids who didn't fit in at other schools, come here!'

I left this posted on the first floor for a while.
And then! Two people came for a trial session: one who said,
I just couldn't find a cram school that fit me...and another who said,
I absolutely refuse to go to a cram school!
And now, those two are successfully attending the school.
Furthermore, thanks to a referral from one of them,
another person came for a trial session as well.
I'm amazed that good teachers really do grow through word-of-mouth like this.
Also, someone who has been coming to our space and was interested in the school
is likely to have an interview and trial session to enroll,
so the number of prospective students is steadily increasing.
We are almost at capacity now.
I received feedback from one child's mother that was so glowing,
I almost wondered if it was a fake review.
It made me even happier than the teacher himself.
(I wanted to post it, but I haven't received permission yet,
so I will post it once I get the go-ahead.)
I'm truly impressed that there really are professional cram school teachers out there.
But the reason I can recommend Mr. Y above all else is,that he has participated in reading groups for the 'Convention on the Rights of the Child' multiple times!
I don't think there are many cram school teachers like that.
A teacher who is close to the children and also teaches them in a way that makes school
studies feel fun is truly precious.
I don't mean to say that school studies are the most important thing.
Even so, being able to do well in school studies can be a catalyst for liking to study,
and it makes them think, 'I can do it if I try!'
A teacher who provides such an opportunity is invaluable.
This concludes Mr. Y's story.
We are also accepting applications at any time from those who want to use the space regularly for lessons or other activities!
