The Junior Who Shattered My "Common Sense"
I was on the basketball team in high school.
You might say, "How many decades ago was that?!"
This time, I'm talking about the period after I retired and graduated from high school.
It's not a big deal, but it's something that has stayed with me.
Was the club I joined actually a military unit?!
It was an unnecessarily strict club.
No dating, cut your hair, don't drink water, you won't die even if you practice hard, if you hyperventilate just hold a plastic bag to your mouth... well, there were many things, but I'll save those stories for another time.

To the summer training camp after graduation
Even so, I managed to retire and graduate from high school.
That summer, I went to the current students' summer training camp.
It was a camp where my juniors, two years below me, were working hard for the autumn rookie tournament.
When we graduates arrived, the current first and second-year students greeted us with a storm of
"Hello!"
For the juniors, seniors had to be treated like gods (regardless of what they really thought).
In the midst of that, it was time for practice to start soon.
Enter Vice-Captain Y-chan
We graduates were all watching blankly, expecting Y-chan to say,
"First-years, mop the floor!"
However, Y-chan walked straight to the mop storage area,
grabbed one, and started mopping the floor herself.
The first-years rushed over in a panic,
"Senior, let me do that!"
they said, trying to take the mop, but Y-chan
shook her head and said, "It's fine, it's fine!"
and continued mopping silently.
The first-years all started doing other preparations, like grabbing other mops to clean.
Y-chan's actions were by no means sarcastic.
I was surprised.
With just one approach like this, the atmosphere can change for the better!
Just because you're a senior doesn't mean you have to act all high and mighty.
"Crack!!" <= The sound of my common sense breaking (lol)
Because I was in a military unit—no, a basketball team that was like a military unit—I thought the hierarchy between seniors and juniors was the most common sense thing ever.
However, this incident with Y-chan made me realize that it wasn't common sense at all!!
Even if it was just mopping.
It's been decades, but I can't forget it, and whenever something happens, I remember Y-chan and ask myself,
"Is that really common sense?!"
