A good man (a good woman) is faithful to their desires. #BLOCK
──A good man is faithful to his desires.
That is a quote from Amy, the beloved Amy Yamada.
Needless to say, we are all living toward our dreams, wishes, and our own desires.
Many people may have forgotten this while being busy with their hectic daily lives or taking care of others, but everyone has it imprinted in their DNA that they live to fulfill themselves.
What Amy is saying is a form of self-liberation: that you can become a good man (or a good woman) by being honest with your own desires.
Anyone will do—try thinking of someone you like, someone you admire, that cool guy you hate to admit you like, a star you are drawn to, a celebrity, or a successful person—people you desperately want to be like.
They might look like people of excellent character or noble individuals living for others, but the reason they are successful, shine brightly, and are good men or women who can contribute to others is, first and foremost, because they are honest and faithful to their own desires, wishes, and dreams at their core.
The important thing is to permit your own desires and to be honest with them. That means,──to clarify your desires, wishes, and your own cravings.
What do you want to do? Once you understand that essential wish, just head straight toward it. As you head toward it, you will eventually notice something that is blocking you.
We at ERNEST call that a BLOCK, but in psychology, it is called a cognitive bias or a mind block, and because it is rooted in the subconscious, it is difficult to notice on your own.
In psychological circles, the method used is to pull out the past emotional wounds, traumas, and experiences that are the root cause of that BLOCK, unravel them, and heal them. While this has a certain level of effectiveness, it is not complete on its own.
If healing trauma were enough for anyone to become a good man or woman, achieve their dreams, and find happiness, then the world's biggest billionaires would all be psychological counselors by now.
Half of a BLOCK might be trauma—that is, wounds inflicted by the world or others—but the other half is the assumptions and beliefs you have decided upon yourself.
As long as you are blaming someone else, you will never become a good man or a good woman.
No matter what pain or suffering someone carries, when they stand on their own two feet, decide with their gut, and hold their head high, the BLOCK breaks.
A BLOCK is actually a DOOR.
In order to fulfill your desires, wishes, dreams, and hopes, and to become the person you want to be and live the life you want to live, you have no choice but to keep opening the DOORs that lead to new stages.
Will you live forever blaming the past, others, or the world, or will you take responsibility for your own desires and live powerfully? You should know the answer yourself.
In one of my favorite movies, 'Summer of Sam,' there is a line like this.
"Take responsibility for yourself, man. It's not the fin' world. It's your fin' dick that made you do that! Don't blame the world!"
"Take responsibility for yourself. It's not the world's fault. It was your own desire that made you do that. Don't blame the world."
Spike Lee brilliantly depicts the human nature of wanting to blame something or someone when feeling anxious—using a serial killer as a motif—but we only feel anxious when we are not living out our own desires.
When you are not being honest with your own desires and wishes, a BLOCK stands in your way.
At such times, people unconsciously belittle themselves, sulk, and engage in self-denial, thinking they are no good, which causes their desires and wishes to become distorted as well.
Even though you truly want to do work you love, live with people you love, and earn plenty of money, you end up doing work you hate, living with people you hate, and living in a way that prevents you from earning money—that is the BLOCK, and the true nature of the ego that manipulates it.
When you notice the BLOCK, heal your past wounds, stand on your own two feet, and steel yourself, the BLOCK turns into a DOOR (a gateway to fulfilling your wishes).
Unfortunately, the KEY to opening the DOOR has always been pain and suffering throughout history. But that is also a gospel.
Are there any among those who have succeeded, shine, and live dazzlingly happy lives who have not gone through pain and suffering?
Perhaps Buddha and Christ brought the light of salvation to people because they walked the path of hardship and thorns more than anyone else.
If you are currently bewildered by pain, suffering, a sense of discomfort, a feeling of being trapped, uncertainty, and instability, it is the same as holding the KEY in your hand.
Once you find the KEY, you don't need to suffer as much as Buddha or Christ.
You just need to open the DOOR in front of you.
Be faithful to your desires. Wish for your dreams. Live your WISH.
Discard your past self. Live today. Live in the now.
The KEY is always within you.
The DOOR to fulfilling your wishes is always right there.
Grab that knob right in front of you, the one you have been avoiding until now.
Jump. Swing your arms and legs. Shout. Run.
Your trembling heart, your vibrant sense of life, and your racing blood flow will tell you what you crave. That burning passion will surely open the DOOR.
Turn Blocks into Doors.
