Changing the status quo means 'cutting off the future that lies beyond the status quo'
A story about a career change support interview. The job seeker is a man in his mid-20s.
He joined a large company as a new graduate and is currently assigned to a regional branch. Although he is achieving steady results, he feels that if he continues like this, he will be buried in a seniority-based organization and cannot see a future, so he set a career goal and began his job search.
The reason you cannot make a firm resolution is that the 'sense of reality of the status quo' is too strong
He had an interview at a certain company and was rejected. The feedback from the interviewer was, 'I don't really understand what you want to do,' and 'I don't feel any resolve to change your reality.'
Following that, we discussed what to do next, but he didn't know what he wanted to do. For this job change, he set a goal to polish his proposal skills as a salesperson in a smaller organization where his abilities would be evaluated fairly, and then aim for consulting as the next step, but he kept worrying about his annual income, the work location, and the company's name value. Even though he had set a goal, there was a contradiction in that he was acting based on the gains and losses of his current situation rather than moving toward that goal.To move toward an ideal goal, it is important not to make value judgments based on your current, ignorant self, but to set 'What would my future self do?' as your value standard. You could call it looking at things from a medium- to long-term perspective. That is true, and I understand that, buthumans are creatures that are inevitably pulled by the 'sense of reality of the status quo'as well.
Believe in your future, believe in your intuition
To start with the conclusion, being able to shift your sense of reality from the current status quo to your future goalis the ideal of ideals. This is something I experienced while learning cognitive science theories and the mechanics of the mind through coaching.
So, what should you do? It is not something that can be settled simply, but
realize that 'the moment you think you want to change the status quo, your ideal future does not exist on the extension of the status quo'.
Even if you want to change the status quo, if you continue to live the same days as now, there is no way you will reach your goal. The future on the extension of the status quo you spend in this way is an illusion. The ideal does not exist. Even if you understand it in your head, humans live by inertia.
So, what should you do?You should just cut off the future that lies beyond the status quo. That meansmaking the decision to quit something. In order to stop the unconscious habit of the human brain that tries to stay in the status quo, you must consciously cut off the sense of reality of the status quo in that way.
Shift your comfort zone by telling yourself that you are no longer here, and that the side over there (the goal) is your true self.
It will be okay. The fact that you want to change the status quo and are seeking an ideal future means that from the moment you decide to proceed down that path, your brain will desperately start thinking about how to make it happen. However, as long as you are using the comfort of the status quo, those methods will never emerge.
