Coffee perfect for your daily cup [Recommended] [Drip]
1. Yamamoto Coffee Kan European Blend
I usually buy this at Costco.
By the way, it's about ¥1,600 at Costco stores.
It's ¥1,768 on Costco Online.
Aroma. Body. Sharpness. It's well-balanced overall and easy to drink.
A nostalgic flavor that reminds me of the coffee my parents drank when I was a child.
Every autumn, Yamamoto Coffee sets up a special event booth at the Costco Makuhari store, where you can buy not just ground coffee but also whole beans. Even though coffee is considered a luxury item and expiration dates vary by manufacturer, I remember being impressed that Yamamoto Coffee displayed freshly roasted beans. I've been a fan ever since.
By the way, coffee beans generally sold in stores often have a one-year expiration date. If possible, you want to choose and drink fresh beans. Be sure to check before you buy.
2. hills Rich Blend
While the Yamamoto Coffee mentioned in #1 also has a nostalgic flavor, Hills beans are the taste of my childhood memories.
Both of my parents loved coffee, and my father's go-to coffee beans were Hills.
It was a can like this that we called the 'Hills Can' in our house. My parents always bought three or four of them at a time for our family home.
Hills coffee after such a long time.
It's truly the taste of my family home.
Easy to drink and fragrant.
Personally, I find that using slightly less coffee grounds than the recommended amount is just right.
3. Home-roasted beans
And once in a while, I roast my own coffee beans.
I roast them whenever it's time to replace the range hood filter.
When you roast them yourself, you can enjoy a special, triple-fresh coffee experience: freshly roasted, freshly ground, and freshly brewed.
You can feel the aroma and flavor in three dimensions.
A mellow coffee is ready.
I never knew fresh coffee could be this rich!
For when you're in a slightly special mood.
Bonus.
I still have a stock of green beans I bought from a local coffee shop.
You can buy them online too. Just make sure the beans aren't too small and check that there aren't too many damaged ones.
What are defective beans?
If you roast them with defective beans left in, it will increase the off-flavors.
The photos on this site are easy to understand.
The trick to removing defective beans is to judge them by whether they look 'unappetizing'.
I started home roasting with the 'Iri-Jozu' roaster.
It's a small amount, just a few dozen grams, but if you follow the manual, you'll almost never fail.
You can enjoy delicious coffee easily.
I got used to it as a beginner, and now I roast 200g at a time using a colander.
I've been hand-brewing for 10 years, but the Kalita coffee maker is incredibly delicious. I've almost stopped hand-brewing because of it.
It's simple and genuinely delicious. Maintenance is also easy.
The water container on the left side of the photo cannot be removed for washing, but it's fine if you wipe it down regularly with a paper towel. The design has come full circle and is a cute, Showa-era look.
You can enjoy a rich, full-bodied flavor that you can't get with paper drip.
It's an excellent tool that you can rinse and use over and over again.
The mesh clogs easily, so be sure to wash it frequently.
By the way.
According to an article I saw the other day, a drip height of 30cm is ideal.
To maximize mixing with the coffee grounds and achieve a higher extraction rate, it is best to keep the height from the spout to the coffee grounds at approximately 30 cm.
If you are brewing with paper, use Daiso filters.
7-Eleven carries them too. Incredible value.
Once in a while, enjoy an exquisite cup using a flannel drip.
This extra effort is fun. It is delicious.
A hobbyist colleague of mine says, 'The ultimate coffee is cold brew.' It is refreshing and easy to drink in the summer. Green tea is also quite nice.
