Are you worried about quitting your job? A message for you
Hi everyone, it's Ruri ^^
Why did I quit my stable job as a civil servant and
choose to work as a self-employed individual with no guarantees?
And, as a result, do I have any regrets,
or am I fulfilled?
I'm going to write about those things.
I'll start with the conclusion right away.
“I should have quit and taken the leap sooner without worrying!”
In other words,I'm very satisfied^^
Isn't it great to be able to earn money from home?
I'm not good with the cold or the heat, so
commuting in the dead of winter or the height of summer is tough...
I am hopelesslylazy.
Wait, it's a waste to quit being a civil servant...
Quitting a civil service job is hard to get people around you to understand,
everyone is surprised, and they tell you it's a waste.
What are you going to do after quitting the civil service?
This is the question I was asked the most (lol)
Leave me alonnnne!!!
Right?
So, I think I'll compare how I work now with how I worked when I was a civil servant.
When I was a civil servant:
・Monday through Friday
・Working every day from 8:30 to 17:15
・Unpaid overtime every day
・Frequent weekend and holiday shifts depending on the department
My current situation:
・Basically Monday through Friday
・Working in between doing chores, etc., between about 10:00 and 15:00 every day
・Working at night or on weekends depending on my workload
That's what my work hours look like.
This is my current situation.
In the future, my working hours are planned to decrease significantly.
In addition to this, something has changed significantly.
That is...
Bosses and unpleasant senior colleagues, and interpersonal relationships that require walking on eggshells,
Not at all!!!!!
It's truly the best!
The reason I chose to work as a sole proprietor
has a lot to do with this.
I'm done with a life controlled by interpersonal relationships!
That's what I thought,
so I started my business from scratch.
What is up with those customs...
For a long time, I've never been good with workplaces that have an old-fashioned, Showa-era vibe.
To describe what kind of workplace that is:
・The boss is intimidating, and subordinates spend every day walking on eggshells.
・Even necessary work consultations are done while trying to read their mood.
・If a newcomer surpasses the skills of their seniors, they aren't looked upon kindly
・Getting scolded for unreasonable things
・Serving tea to clients and cleaning the breakroom is done by women
・Everyone does unpaid overtime for some reason, even when there's nothing to do
・Strict rules on hair color and clothing
What do you think?
Perhaps there are still quite a lot of workplaces like this out there.
This is the kind of work environment I have experienced in the past.
I truly just couldn't stand it anymore.
I'm sure people in the world are working hard in this environment as a matter of course.
Yet, I just couldn't do it...
It was a time of daily self-loathing.
I have changed jobs several times, and the work environments where I felt I fit in and stayed for a long time were
like this.
like this.
・There was almost no hierarchy with seniors, and you were judged on whether you could do the job or not.
・There were no grumpy seniors or bosses.
・Even new employees had their ideas adopted one after another.
・Even new employees were left to decide how to do their work themselves.
・Even if seniors were staying late, you could leave on time once your work was done.
・Hair color and clothing were fine as long as they suited the person.
The difference between these two work environments is,
whether it focuses on 'reading the room',or
whether it focuses on 'the work' itself.
I think the latter suited me better.
The latter gives workers more peace of mind, doesn't it?
Living stress-free is super important!
But it's not like such comfortable workplaces
are just lying around everywhere.
If anything, there are still many old-fashioned workplaces.
So, I just thought,
no matter where I go, I'm probably not suited for belonging to a company or organization,
in that case,I'll create that environment myself!
That's what I decided.
In my own way, as someone who couldn't fit into society,
I found a way of life that suits me.
That day I ran away from my workplace
Actually, at my previous job as a civil servant,
I ended up breaking down mentally.
I don't want to, I don't want toI thought while commuting, but
One day, after that had continued for several months,
Weekends were my only joy,
and I was always able to refresh myself on Saturdays and Sundays.
Suddenly,holidays became scary..
I couldn't enjoy them from the bottom of my heart.
It was during Golden Week.
It was a relatively long break.
Normally, wouldn't you be super excited for a long vacation?
But I was scared for the long vacation to start.
Even though I was working hard looking forward to the break, when the break finally came, I was
alreadyfull of thoughts about returning to work. It was the most exhausting Golden Week I've ever had in my life. Still, I kept working for a while.
I have to work to survive.
With just that thought, I was living every daylike a zombie.
Then, one day a while later, I became incredibly unable to focus on my work.
Nothing people said would sink in. I couldn't understand anything.
"Something is wrong."
Thinking that, I escaped to the restroom for a moment.
Then,I couldn't stop crying.
I was shocked.
To start crying at work.
And I was sobbing uncontrollably, too. (lol)
Even though I thought it was strange,
I worked for another week after that.
Because I thought if I took a break once, I wouldn't be able to go back.
One morning, a week later,
my husband told me,"Just take a break now."
"Are you really going to work with a face like that?" they said.
It seems I was going to work with a look of such
tragic misery that it looked like the end of the world (lol).
Even so, I thought that if I took a break, everything would be over, so I
forced myself to go to work.
That afternoon,
I reached my
limit to the point where I couldn't even leave the restroom, and
as if running away, I left work early that afternoon.
That was the last time I ever went to that workplace.
It took a lot of courage to take a break.
I was afraid of losing my job.
But, once I actually got the time off and
was on leave for a while...
although I felt anxious, it was actually very comfortable!
That was when I first realized that
my mind and body were both exhausted.
"Oh, I should have taken care of myself sooner."
I was able to think that way around the time I decided to start my own business, though.
People are creatures that fear change.
Even if, like me, you are in the worst environment and
genuinely want to change.
That's why it's hard to get moving.
But, let's quickly escape from unpleasant environments!
To those who are struggling in the same way,
that is what I want to say.
You might say that's irresponsible...
but
I am saying it seriously.
Health is more important than anything!
Money is of course important but,
without a healthy mind and body,
sooner or later you might not be able to work at all.
So, before that happens, isn't it okay to run away
?
If you can stay healthy in mind and body,
there are countless ways to earn an income and other paths to take.
The world is wider than you think ^^
After going through such a big decision,
Now, I am able towork whenever and wherever I want.
The result of me, a former civil servant, turning into a sole proprietor.
People might have laughed at me in their hearts or worried that I would regret it.
But, you only live once,
so!you only live onceand!
living as you like,stress-free,is
truly the right answer, I think.
