Tea Ceremony Practice After 23 Years, and the Reunion That Awaited Me
A Tanabata🎋 themed Urasenke tea ceremony practice💚
(While Tanabata is strongly associated with July 7th, it is said that around August 19th the sky is more likely to be clear.
Around this time, the Milky Way🌌 and the Summer Triangle✨️ are often clearly visible too💡)
At the home of a tea ceremony teacher🏠️ who I once interacted with in the same community and who invited me to a
tea gathering in April
Not just about "drinking tea," but an adult practice to
enjoy with all five senses,🧉
Nearly 20 years ago, I studied Omotesenke tea ceremony for 10 years.
I have experience participating in a
training camp at the Omotesenke head family in Kyoto
Tea ceremony practice might sound a bit intimidating to some people.
But the time I spent that day was completely different from that image.
(And I was given permission to take photos🉑🙌)
It was a peaceful moment of enjoying the margins with members who share the same value of wanting to
fully enjoy life
As expected of an event hosted by Amomo💚
Arrival → Those who wished changed into yukata (The person I went with was quick-witted and rented a yukata for the day from a shop with a great selection👏 No laundry needed for return◎) → Everyone gathered and viewed the tokonoma alcove → Each person chose the tray, tea bowl, natsume (tea caddy), and kensui (waste water container) they wanted to use, and in a table-seating style, we whisked our own thin tea and enjoyed it with dry sweets while chatting a bit (We were also allowed to fill the natsume with matcha and clean the tea bowls with a chakin cloth ourselves) → We entered the tea room through the nijiriguchi (crawling-in entrance) and were served a second bowl of tea prepared by the teacher (We were served main sweets, and even at this seating, we were allowed to choose the tea bowl we wanted to drink from. We also received guidance on timing and manners, etc.)
Choosing is truly fun💮🎶

From this to that, everything is Tanabata🎋 wonderful🤩

We were encouraged to state our
reasons for our choices
, and the time spent listening to others' reasons was also refreshing
The dried sweetswere fanand star-motifkohakuto (amber sugar), and
konpeito (sugar candy) resembling the Milky WayThe main sweet was
Oimatsu’s Hoshiai (it also linked with the teacher's kimono🩵)
Everywhere, there was a sense of the season, and Tanabata🎋 was overflowing.
The person wearing a yukata was
the main guest,
dressed in a summery outfit👘✨️.
For this seating,
hydrangea tea bowl was selected💠.
The name of the tea was
Kochu no Shiro, and the tea supplier was
Seifu-en
spool-shaped
. The natsume (tea caddy) had musical instruments (Amo-mo-san is also a
piano and violin teacher,
astonishing😲!)
Her dignified presence after finishing was also truly wonderful😌❦
It is an authentic tea room
with a sunken hearth. I would like to visit again when it gets cooler.
After the practice, she even prepared
a coffee time for us.
Feeling the changing of the seasons, we enjoyed interaction and chatted.
It was a very luxurious time
An extraordinary experience in daily life
I remembered that when I was studying tea ceremony enthusiastically in the past,
I dreamed of living in a house with an authentic tea room that had a “ro” (sunken hearth) cut into it🥹
I met someone who has realized that for the first time😌💕
Healthy ambition are common among people here.
The encounters in this online salon are treasures💎✨️.
Of course, the topic of flags also came up.
