【The Greatest Secret to a Happy Marriage】Dual-Income🌼Our Household Chores Division

I haven't written about our division of household chores before, so I'll record it here✍️

In our home, both of us are company employees working full-time.

Taking the three major household chores✂️✂️✂️

①　Cooking

②　Cleaning

③　Laundry（including;ironing）

First, for ①, everything from grocery shopping is done by me. Cooking and baking have been hobbies of mine since before I was married, and I attended both cooking and baking classes.

However, currently it feels like I'm doing it out of a sense of obligation💦 My goal is to fill the stomachs of five people and provide nutrition that leads to maintaining health💗

I make 2-3 bento boxes/day on weekdays🍱🍱🍱

And for ②, I have the children help out with some of it🎶

I have always been the one to clean the two toilets.

Currently, large-scale tasks like window cleaning are outsourced (I did it for 13 years, my husband only did it once).

Finally, for ③, my husband is in charge. I had been doing it for 12 years since right after we got married, but after discussing the division of chores, I was able to leave it entirely to my husband🙌

Laundry, even with the use of a dryer, is surprisingly physical labor, so I feel it is a chore suited for men. Also, since it clearly piles up and cannot be ignored, I am really glad I left it to my husband (and that he took it on)👏

④　Washing dishes▶️This is done by whoever can when they can. → As of 2025/10/21, mostly me

Although we have a dishwasher, I can't master it & since it's for five people, it's a huge amount, so it doesn't all fit💧

⑤　Trimming garden trees▶️Me

It's not that large, so I only take care of it when they grow out. When I decide to do it, if I tell my husband, he doesn't move right away, so I bought a sharp tool for live wood and do it myself when I notice it needs doing.

For things like weeding that don't require a saw, I basically have the children help.

⑥　Nursery school drop-off and pick-up was done completely 50/50🍒

This was very good because I felt we were definitely working together in raising our children🎵

Drop-off▶️Husband, Pick-up▶️Me.

This wasn't decided through discussion, but rather roles were determined spontaneously and rationally.

Since we have shared the burden equally, I feel this is the secret to avoiding feelings of unfairness and preventing the kids from disliking their dad.

We were also able to share how the nursery teachers and children were doing.

⑦ Handling illness/doctor visits after nursery school or elementary school drop-off▶️Mostly me

Recently, the children don't get sick very often, but situations still arise where we have to take them to the pediatrician for a persistent cough or to the ophthalmologist for a stye.

In situations like this▶️Husband (For the past few years, it feels like he takes them before I even realize I need to take them lol)

⑧ Various vaccinations▶️Me

⑨ When nursing is needed for fevers, etc.▶️My parents, husband, and I take turns

With this kind of division in our home, I think we are doing relatively well❔

Now that nursery school drop-offs are over, I feel this is the greatest secret to a happy marriage as of August 2022💡.

Eldest daughter Weeding, harvesting edible nuts
Eldest son Alternating every month between washing the bath or cutting milk cartons, cleaning the stairs
Second son Alternating every month between washing the bath or cutting milk cartons, wiping the floor

By the way, my husband also cooks while I'm traveling
He also took charge of the 2025 sports day bento by his own choice
(I did the spot-saving🎌)

My husband has almost never taken out the trash...
