[PT Dad's Day Off] Kids at the Aquarium 🐟 Adults at the Sushi Restaurant 🍣 A story about how we see the same fish differently
🐠Introduction
My eldest son loves dolphins and sharks.
PT Dad loves yellowtail and red sea bream.
NS Mom loves tuna and crab.
Even though they are both sea creatures,
kids enjoy them by "watching,"
while adults enjoy them by "eating."
Even with the same fish, when your perspective is different,
the way you see them is completely different, isn't it? (lol)
The other day, on the way back from the aquarium,
we stopped by a sushi restaurant,
and that gap felt somehow interesting.
This time, I'd like to talk about a small discovery
I felt during that family outing.
🦭We went to the aquarium
This week, our family went to the aquarium.
It's an aquarium famous for its dolphin show,
and my eldest son had been saying for days,
"I'm going to see the dolphins!"
and was really looking forward to it.
He was excited on the morning of the day,
and talked about dolphins the whole time in the car.
When we arrived at the aquarium,
his eyes lit up at the fish in the large tank,
"Oh! Fish!"
"There's a shark!"
he said, very excited.
And then, the long-awaited dolphin show.
Following the trainer's signals,
the dolphins would chirp
and skillfully move their fins.
My eldest son watched intently with sparkling eyes.
And above all,
the highlight was the big jump!
The sight of their large bodies leaping vigorously out of the water
drew loud cheers from the audience.
Water splashed every time they jumped,
making it feel very immersive.
The live dolphin show was powerful,
and even we adults couldn't help but watch intently.
💧The main large tank
After the dolphin show,
we headed to the aquarium's main attraction,
the large tank.
Inside the tank were
large rays and
the aquarium's favorite (?) remora.
Furthermore, migratory fish like yellowtail, yellowtail amberjack, and greater amberjack
were swimming leisurely.
The sight of a school of horse mackerel turning in unison
was also powerful, and I couldn't help but watch.
Every time my eldest son found a fish,
"It's huge!"
"There are so many!"
he said, very excited.
For the fish,
it must be their everyday life,
but to us,
it felt like a different world.
🐟What's the difference between yellowtail, yellowtail amberjack, and greater amberjack?
I like yellowtail, so
I ended up reading the explanation panel
without thinking. (lol)
Actually, yellowtail, yellowtail amberjack, and greater amberjack
look very similar.
I used to think,
"Aren't they all yellowtail?"
There are several ways to tell them apart, but
・Yellowtail → The pectoral and pelvic fins are almost the same length・Yellowtail amberjack → The pelvic fin is longer
・Greater amberjack → Characterized by a black band passing through the eyes
apparently.
After reading the explanation and looking at the tank,
"Is that a yellowtail?"
"Is this one a yellowtail amberjack?"
it became a bit more fun to look at the fish.
By the way, my eldest son didn't care about that,
"It's a big fish!"
he said happily. (lol)
Looking at the yellowtail, my eldest son said,
"It's huge and cool!"
and was very excited.
Next to him, I was thinking,
"It looks delicious, I want to eat it 🤤"
(lol).
Even though we were looking at the same fish,
the child was looking at it as a "creature to admire,"
and the adult was looking at it as "food."
I couldn't help but laugh
at how completely different our perspectives were.
Seeing my eldest son's pure reaction,
"Come to think of it, did I also look at them thinking they were cool fish when I was little?"
I thought to myself while gazing at the large tank.
🍣Kids are happy to see fish, adults are happy to eat fish
After enjoying the aquarium,
we went to a sushi restaurant as a family.
Even though we were just looking at fish
swimming in a tank,
now we are looking at fish on a plate. (lol)
My eldest son was munching on his favorite menu items
while talking about our memories at the aquarium.
And I enjoyed my favorite yellowtail and red sea bream.
The sweetness of the yellowtail fat.
The elegant umami of the red sea bream.
It really is delicious.
At the aquarium,
my eldest son looked at the fish and said,
"It's huge and cool!"
Next to him, I was thinking,
"It looks delicious 🤤"
And at the sushi restaurant,
I was able to properly
fulfill that feeling. (lol)
Kids are happy to see fish,
and adults are happy to eat fish.
Even though it's the same fish, depending on your position,
the way you see it is so different.
It was a holiday with such an obvious,
yet interesting discovery.
📝Afterword
In my eldest son's eyes, the fish are "cool creatures."
In my eyes, they are "delicious fish."
Even though we are looking at the same fish,
I found it interesting that
the way we see them is so different.
Will there come a day when my eldest son also thinks,
"That looks delicious"
just like me? (lol)
But for now,
I want to cherish the sight of him talking
with sparkling eyes, saying,
"The dolphins were amazing!"
"The fish were huge!"
Kids are happy to see fish,
and adults are happy to eat fish.
It was a fun holiday
where I noticed such a small difference 🐟🍣
