I tried using ChatGPT for dream analysis, and salmon roe hatched.
The world is currently experiencing a surge in colds due to the triple combo of seasonal changes, temperature fluctuations, and aging (results may vary), but how is everyone doing? Suddenly, perhaps due to restless nights, have you been sleeping lightly or having strange dreams lately?
Since I started this note, I have focused entirely on matchmaking, but this time, I'm going to stray a bit and write under the theme of 'Let's use ChatGPT for dream analysis!'. I myself have been having days where dreams leave a strong impression, and the trigger for this article was the thought, 'Why not just ask ChatGPT about the meaning of my dreams!'.
Do you remember the dream you had yesterday?
I have been living for 42 years now, and I think that by this age, everyone has had a dream at least once. The word 'dream' is very confusing, as there are two types: dreams as goals and dreams you see while sleeping, but what I will cover in this article is 'about dreams you see while sleeping'.
Dreams have really chaotic story structures, don't they? Someone who appeared as a woman a moment ago becomes a man, or the scene suddenly shifts from Japan to America. Sometimes I remember them clearly, and other times I wake up without anything happening. When I asked ChatGPT, 'In short, what are dreams anyway?', it seems that in the 2020s, dreams are roughly classified into the following five categories.
[Physiological/Neuroscientific Definition]
'Subjective experiences created by the brain during sleep'
It is said that the most vivid dreams occur during REM sleep.
Fragments of memory, emotional processing, and brain simulation activities are intertwined.
🔍Point: Dreams are not 'random activity' of the brain, but are said to be a byproduct of the brain processing emotions and memories.
[Psychological Definition (Post-Jung/Freud)]
'Messages from the unconscious, or symbolic expressions of desire'
Freud: Dreams are modified expressions of 'repressed desires' (often sexual symbols).
Jung: Dreams are symbolic messages for 'self-growth' (involving the collective unconscious and archetypes).
🔍Point: In psychology, they are used as 'a means of dialogue with the self' and 'symbols of unintegrated emotions and thoughts'.
[Cultural/Folklore Definition]
'A means to connect with gods, spirits, or the afterlife,' 'A place to receive futures or revelations'
Dream-reading priestesses, prophetic dreams, and conversations with the dead have been valued in spiritual contexts since ancient times.
🔍Point:
In some cultures, dreams are also perceived as 'journeys to another world' or 'movement of the soul'.
In Japan, dream interpretation also appears in works like 'The Pillow Book'.
[Self-Growth/Spiritual Context]
'Messages from the soul,' 'Conversations with the inner self'
Related to self-healing, shadow work, inner child, etc.
More people are understanding themselves through 'dream journals' and 'dream dialogue'.
🔍Point:
This is the area where dream analysis with ChatGPT is easily used.
[Modern Philosophy/Consciousness Studies]
'A subjective state of consciousness indistinguishable from reality'
The argument that reality itself might be 'something like a dream generated by the brain' (dream skepticism).
🔍Point:
As seen in movies like 'Inception' and 'The Matrix,' it is also treated as a question of the boundary between dreams and reality.
Which group do you belong to? (Assuming there is no right answer)
I find the [Psychological Definition] the most convincing, and I think that ineffable emotions, stress, and desires appear as dreams through extremely obscure methods and means.Perhaps because I have vaguely thought that way for a long time, whenever I had a dream that left an impression, I would actively do 'dream fortune-telling'.
Probably the famous ones are 'If you dream of a dirty toilet, your financial luck will improve'or 'If a pest appears, it is a symbol of someone you dislike', and so on. But it's a hassle to look up keywords one by one, and the keywords themselves are set quite broadly, so it was 'meh' at best.
So, I suddenly thought, wouldn't it be good to do dream fortune-telling with ChatGPT?. The day after I had a very impressive dream, I tapped on my smartphone with sleepy eyes and threw the content of the strange and bizarre dream that had been unfolding in my brain until just a moment ago at 4o (the paid version of ChatGPT), asking, 'What does this mean?'
An egg that looked like it was about to hatch was, for some reason, at the tip of a stem.
The dream I remembered that day was about trying to change the water in a vase displayed in my room, so I pulled out the flowers. However, I was surprised when I looked at the stems of the flowers I had pulled out. To my surprise, there were a large number of salmon roe attached to the tips of the stems. I still remember feeling 'fishy!' in that instant (lol).
Actually, in the dream, there was no smell, and I just accepted it, thinking, 'So the water was this dirty because there were eggs attached to it.' But, since there were salmon roe attached, I wondered what to do, and when I looked closely at the eggs, I saw fish that had already grown beyond the fry stage cowering inside the eggs. There was one fish in each egg, for a total of two eggs with fish in them.
I wondered why they were cowering, so I looked at the vase again, and piranhas and a salmon, which was likely the mother of the eggs, were swimming leisurely inside the vase, and I was convinced, 'Ah, they were afraid of predators.' But I thought it would be difficult to change the water if the eggs were attached, and just as I was thinking that nonchalantly, I woke up. And then, when I sent this dream as it was to ChatGPT, the interpretation that came back was this.
🌱'Vase' = Symbol of the vessel of emotions or daily life
🐟 'Fish eggs' = Immature ideas / emotions that have not yet grown
😨 'Cowering fish' = Anxiety about society or interpersonal relationships
'Trying to change the water' = Desire to refresh the situation
The fish trying to hatch from the eggs are ideas that are finally starting to grow, but 'What if I swim out into the outside world and get eaten immediately?' = 'Even if I release this idea into the world, no one might pay attention to it, and there is a fear that I might be made a fool of' is the movement of my heart...!
Oh boy, I have nothing but ideas about this...
At the time, I had just started my marriage hunting note. However, the reason I started it was becauseI really wanted to try publishing my own book (blush).I know how to write a book! (Since I make my living as a book and magazine editor.) But, I have absolutely no name recognition! That's it, note!—With that kind of short-sighted thinking, I ended up starting this note (lol).
Perhapsthe fish about to hatch are the 'seeds of ideas' that I want people in the world to pick up as a book. However, for better or worse, because I have experience as an editor, I think I was unconsciously making judgments like 'will it sell/won't it sell' or, in the first place, 'can it be a book/can't it be a book.' I can sort of tell how the public will react based on my past experience, andI wonder if the feeling of 'I want to do it, but I have to gauge the timing' turned into this kind of dream? That's what I think.
By the way, when asking ChatGPT about a dream, just ask, 'I had this kind of dream, what does it mean?'It answers reasonably well even in the free version, but I get the impression that the paid version (4o) picks up on symbols more deeply. After that day, for some reason, I started remembering my dreams well, and just the other day, I had dreams for three nights in a row (!)so, separate from the marriage hunting note, I'd like to introduce various things about dream analysis from time to time!
The next dream is'I went to a concert of my favorite artist (both seats), but for some reason, I was sleeping on the streets of Paris and being hit on by a cool older guy.' (lol) It's a bit of a chaotic dream, but that might be the reality of the unconscious. Please look forward to the next one too!
