北海道の西側

この記事は一年半前に書いたのですが、放置しておりました。
旅行中はボーっとしてあまり考えておりませんでしたが、写真を見直して、道東とは風景が異なる北海道の西側を地図で調べてみました：

① 岬巡りをしていた頃、

納沙布岬（北海道最東端）
宗谷岬（北海道最北端）、ノシャップ岬
地球岬
襟裳岬
神威岬（積丹半島）
白神岬（北海道最南端）

には行きましたが、茂津多岬 Cape Motta と尾花岬 Cape Obana はアクセスが困難ということで、無謀な挑戦はしませんでした。
2017年の船旅ではこれらの岬を遠くからぼんやり見ていたのでしょう。

② 茂津多岬・尾花岬が位置するせたな町には且つて瀬棚線という太平洋側と日本海側を結ぶ国鉄のローカル線がありました。尾花岬の南数Km程の所に日本一危険と言われる太田山神社が鎮座しています。

In July 2017 my wife and I took Shin Nihonkai Ferry 新日本海フェリー from Otaru to Niigata in order to meet my parents in law, who were still alive at that time, and my sister in law in Tochio, Nagaoka City, Niigata Prefecture 新潟県長岡市栃尾.
We usually use Jōetsu Shinkansen上越新幹線 in order to go to Nagaoka, which only takes 90+ minutes.
Instead, we took an ANA flight from Haneda 羽田 to Shin-Chitose 新千歳, and then went to Otaru by train from Shin-Chitose Airport.
It was a refreshing trip though.
As shown in the photos below, the sunset we saw from the ferry was literally breathtaking.

When I looked outside our room the next morning, it was pouring🌧️. While we had a balcony, we couldn't go outside, which was rather disappointing. After disembarkation, we picked up a taxi to go Niigata Station…
