Hello, this is Fukuko. I am slowly working on glasses designs again today.

Based on my experience designing glasses, if someone were to ask me what the most important point of a pair of glasses is, I would answer the front (front frame).

It is the part that sits on your face. Of course, some might argue that the material, functionality, and temple design are also important, but...

After all, I believe glasses are an item that is only as good as how they look when worn.

Since I design many things for the Japanese market, it seems that end users prefer items that can be used daily and are orthodox with a little added value.

Therefore, things that are too eccentric or feel somehow off when worn do not sell well.

There are also shapes for the front (lens shape) that sell well and those that do not. Recently, lines that are slightly plump seem to be popular as they are easier to accept.

With this front (lens shape), the bottom line is raised too high, so when you put the glasses on, they look like they are slanted upwards. And there is a tendency for slanted-up looks to be less preferred.

I will tweak that a little bit.

I balance the front (lens shape) into a nice look like this. When I cannot tell the atmosphere just from the screen, I print out the drawing, and if I think it is still not quite right, I correct the lines by hand... refine them... and then correct the drawing again... repeating this process over and over.

It is quite a steady and painstaking task.

And interestingly, just like the habits in one's handwriting, the front (lens shape) also has a person's habits! And my habit tends to be "leaning towards slanted up"...

I need to be very careful! (Oh no...)
