Communication for Happiness

Following up on the previous article, I would like to consider what kind of communication makes us feel happy, while referring to "Well-being (Takashi Maeno)."

1. Talking about dreams and goals

Many people who receive coaching love having a vivid image of their future! I am actually one of them, and by having a vivid image of the months or years ahead, I feel an unstoppable sense of excitement and a strong sense of happiness.

This feels very strange. Even if you paint a good future, the current situation does not change. However, I feel that just by having a strong image of the future, the hope of wanting to fulfill that future brings a sense of happiness.

I think it is a matter of choosing the right situation, as it might not be good if overdone, and some people might feel cold when trying to paint a future image, but I feel it is one of the types of coaching that AI cannot do.

2. Showing compassion and gratitude

Having connections with people, especially interacting with compassion and gratitude, also contributes to increased happiness.

Looking around, I feel that many people who do volunteer work have happy faces. The same goes for people who are active in local communities. I also think there are many happy people among those who provide interpersonal support, such as counselors and coaches.

As an easy way to practice gratitude, a "gratitude journal" is introduced in the following article. Interestingly, it is said that keeping a gratitude journal once a week is more effective than doing it frequently, three times a week. That is surprising!

3. Using positive words and actions

When I was very good at presentations in the past, I had a jinx of smiling before I started speaking. I remember that by lifting the corners of my mouth, I would feel positive, and naturally, I could speak in a pleasant mood with a clear voice.

Regarding words, there are what are called 3S words and 3D words.

3S words: "Sugoi" (Amazing), "Suteki" (Lovely), "Subarashii" (Wonderful)
3D words: "Douse" (Anyway), "Demo" (But), "Datte" (Because)

Just by using 3S words more often in the words you use daily and withdrawing 3D words, I feel that the atmosphere becomes brighter. I especially use "Subarashii" (Wonderful) frequently... as it fits any situation perfectly.

4. Establishing and demonstrating your true self

When I started learning about psychology, I did workshops to know my values and received feedback during coaching, and I realized how much easier it is to just have a firm grasp of my own values.

After that, I learned the concept of a "mission," and by setting the purpose of my life, I could recognize that each of my actions was in line with that purpose, so I was able to feel even more fulfillment (which leads to happiness) in my daily life.

Just by clearly verbalizing your own way of living and demonstrating it in your daily connections with people (even though your way of living may change), it seems to be useful for increasing your sense of happiness.

Conclusion: Gorin's Happiness Map

Finally, I would like to introduce Gorin's Happiness Map, which summarizes the factors for becoming happy. By living while valuing these elements, your happiness will increase.
