Designating "Even Month" and "Odd Month" Periods for No-Parking Regulations
There are rare road sections where no-parking regulations change depending on the month. This article provides an overview of these regulations and introduces locations where they can be seen.

Overview of Even and Odd Month Regulations
When no-parking regulations are applied to two-way roads, this system alternates the no-parking side between "odd months" (January, March, May, July, September, November) and "even months" (February, April, June, August, October, December).

In even months, the side marked "odd months" has no parking regulation.
This seems to be set for roads that are not very wide, where parking on both sides would hinder vehicle traffic, and where houses along the road lack parking spaces.
By periodically switching which side of the road is subject to no-parking regulations rather than leaving one side permanently restricted or unrestricted, fairness is ensured.
This regulation is not applied to an entire region, but usually to just one specific road (such as an old main street in that area). In places like Awara City and Tsuruga City in Fukui Prefecture, it may span multiple adjacent roads.

There are slight differences in the content of the auxiliary signs depending on the prefecture.
Niigata Prefecture

Toyama Prefecture
Unlike other prefectures, the expression used is "excluding ~." This is actually more standard for auxiliary regulatory signs. In other words, it must be read as "excluding odd months" = "even months," and "excluding even months" = "odd months."

Fukui Prefecture
There are areas such as Awara City and Tsuruga City in Fukui Prefecture where regulations apply to multiple adjacent roads. Additionally, in Tsuruga City, depending on the section, an auxiliary sign plate is overlaid to indicate that parking is prohibited at all times during the winter period (11/15 to 3/31).

Yamaguchi Prefecture
It carefully explains whether the east or west side of the road is subject to regulation after 'odd-numbered months' and 'even-numbered months'. Time-based regulations are also in effect.

Miyazaki Prefecture
The months to which the regulation applies are listed as an explanation for 'even-numbered months' and 'odd-numbered months'.
