This is my travel diary for the 66th station on my first day landing in Hokkaido. October 12, 2025.
I have arrived at Roadside Station 'Tekkui Land Taisei' in Setana Town, Kudo District, Hokkaido.
🎡 What is the true identity of 'Tekkui Land'?
When you hear this name for the first time, everyone must think:
'Wait, is this some kind of theme park? Are there roller coasters?'
However, those of us who have been touring the southern Hokkaido area already know:
'Tekkui' means 'flounder' (a high-end fish)!!🐟✨ (We already learned this at the 62nd station, 'Kaminokuni Monju'! Haha)
Yes, even though this is the 'Land of Flounder,' it's not like there are flounder mascots dancing around. It was a very quiet and peaceful seaside station with the beautiful 'Hirahama Beach' spreading out right in front of it.🏖️
🎭 I want to shout at the sea! The mysterious stage
While walking around the premises, something caught my eye.
It's a magnificent 'outdoor theater' stage. The Sea of Japan spreads out beyond the audience seats, making for a superb location! It was quiet, perhaps because it's not currently in use, but it would feel amazing to sing toward the sea here.🎤 (There was no one around, so I almost started a Tadaishi recital lol)
🚿 A must-see facility for van lifers
There are no flashy attractions, but this place has the best facility for travelers: it is fully equipped with hot showers!
Since it's right in front of the beach, the shower rooms are well-maintained. If you are touring Hokkaido in a camper or sleeping in your car during the summer, using this place as a base for beach activities and showers might be the perfect plan.
💡 A quick word from a goal achievement expert
If I hadn't known the word 'Tekkui,' I might have just ended up thinking of it as a 'place with a strange name.' However, by knowing the local language and background, my perception changed to 'a place with a rich sea where high-end fish are caught.'
When you jump into a new environment (goal), first try to understand the 'language (rules and culture) of that place.' That is the shortest route to clearing up superficial misunderstandings and finding hidden value (treasures).
✨ Reset by the sea breeze
It wasn't flashy, but it was a 'Land of Flounder' where I could relax and reset my mind while feeling the sea breeze.☺️
Now, I will continue heading north along the Sea of Japan toward the center of Setana Town!🚗💨
