From School Refusal to Online School for My ASD Son | A Mother's Record of Choosing Learning Outside of School

Nice to meet you.

I am a mother raising a third-grade son with ASD traits.

After entering elementary school, my son faced increasing difficulties in school life, which led us to choose school refusal.

At first, as a parent, I worried a lot, wondering, "Will he fall behind in his learning because he can't go to school?" and "What should I do from here on?"

It was in that situation that I discovered the learning method of online schools.

Currently, rather than making going to school the only goal, I am incorporating home learning and online education while searching for a way of learning that suits my son.

In this note, I will share:

・Learning options for children who have stopped attending school
・Ideas for home learning tailored to ASD traits
・Experience reviews of teaching materials and online services we have actually used
・The worries I have had as a parent and how I have overcome them

I will share these not just as idealized stories, but as real experiences.

"Not being able to go to school" does not mean "not being able to learn."

I believe that finding a way of learning that suits the child is also one of the important options for expanding the child's future.

I hope this note will be a hint for those who are similarly worried about their child's school refusal or way of learning.

Also, regarding the teaching materials and services we have actually used, I will introduce them including the pros and cons we felt in our home.
