A working mom buys a diamond. "Lab-grown diamonds" are hot right now!
Good morning!
I have been saying
"I want a diamond!!"
on this Note for a long, long time,
and this time, an acquaintance introduced me to some loose lab-grown diamonds.
Lab-grown diamonds... they're actually pretty great!
This is the story of how I came to that realization.
Right away, I'm already violating social media disclosure standards, aren't I! (Sorry about that.)
Well, since Note is anonymous, I guess it's fine.
After all, I've already written about spending a fortune at Hermes...
They are all stories of significant spending and failures, though...
When I consulted with a jeweler I know...
As a couple who had a "shotgun wedding,"
we never had a proper proposal, an engagement ring, or a real wedding ceremony,
and while watching my American friends wearing large diamond engagement rings,
"That's nice..."
I had always thought,
and since my husband shows no signs of buying me a diamond for our 10th or 20th anniversary either,
at one point,
"If I want it, I'll buy it myself!"
I decided.
What a decisive working mom (self-proclaimed) I am.
I actually went to Ginza,
repeatedly said "I'll pass after all,"
and was told many times by my celebrity mom friends, "Why don't you have your husband buy it for you?" but,
I don't expect such things.
That's when an acquaintance who is a jeweler happened to appear (great timing!).
Actually, they were a very close acquaintance, but I didn't know until recently that they were a jeweler.
I explained the situation and confessed, "I want a diamond!" and,
"I've prepared a 2-carat and a 3-carat, would you like to come see them?"
they said, and when I saw the photos, my heart fluttered at "this size and sparkle!" and,
I gradually started to feel like buying one!
A review of diamond market prices
Since the price of physical assets is rising steadily, now is the cheapest it will be in the future, but
It is at its most expensive right now.
The diamond I usually wear is about 0.4 carats, inherited from my mother, so it's fine for everyday use.
However, I am greedy, so I want a bigger stone.
So, a 2-carat diamond at Costco was 2.5 million yen.
When I went to GRAFF,a 1-carat diamond was 2 to 5 million yen.
For a 2-carat diamond, you can no longer buy it in the one-million-yen range. It costs tens of millions of yen.
I want a large stone, but this is simply impossible...
So, while I am drawn to natural stones,
I decided to consider lab-grown diamonds (synthetic diamonds).
I really wanted a large loose stone of 3 carats or more, so I asked for something large within my budget!
I don't care about the brilliance!
That was the unreasonable request I made to an acquaintance.
Since they have been a jeweler for many years,
I suppose they are used to hearing all sorts of selfish requests from various customers.
"Understood!"
they said, and prepared it for me.
However, this price range!
From now on, unless you are extremely wealthy,
isn't it either lab-grown diamonds or compromising on carat size!?
The price difference between natural and lab-grown diamonds is too great to be described simply as cost-effective.
Depending on the carat size, lab-grown diamonds can cost about one-tenth or one-twentieth the price of natural diamonds.
Apparently, you decide on the loose stone before deciding on the design.
So, I went to see the stones.
They are super sparkly!!!
My eyes turned into hearts.
According to the couple who have been jewelers for decades,
if you take a 2-carat stone and surround it with smaller diamonds called melee diamonds,
it looks quite large.
So, I was told that 3 carats might be a bit too big for everyday use.
However, I am a greedy working mom.
I'll take the 3 carats, please!!
I insisted on it,
and then I couldn't sleep at night because of the risk that I wouldn't be able to wear it daily (lol).
Nails and rings are things you wear for yourself, not to show others so,
it's best not to care what others think.
With zirconia or lab-grown diamonds, you can use them daily without hesitation.
I decided I would enjoy wearing a simple design every day!
Whether it's a Birkin or a diamond, it would be great if I could wear them stylishly in about 40 years!
I have to enjoy them as fashion, not just as asset value.
And so, I am a working mom who, as always, thinks only about how much excitement and fun I can have in my daily life.
As a working mom enduring the triple burden of work, housework, and childcare,
isn't this much okay!
Right?
I have a feeling I'm going to want to collect more.
See you later~♪
