Even a mom wants to eat her mother's rice balls / Shungiku

An essay that makes even those other than the author feel a sense of melancholy at the sight of a former stewardess mother aging. The bond between mother and daughter lurking between the lines brings warmth to the writing. The description of eating the rice ball was simple, yet it conveyed the five senses vividly.

I who introduce myself as 'Okinawan' in a fast voice / Makoto Taira

A unique essay that only an author born in Okinawa but who only spent a few years there could write. While feeling the weight of the history the grandmother has walked, there was an indescribable pain in the scene where a 'mistake' occurred due to a seemingly trivial item: a camouflage-patterned hat.

'Should I incorporate this into emergency food?' I, a sweet potato lover, visited 10 supermarkets and compared 7 types of roasted sweet potatoes / Yakiimo

The idea of 'incorporating my favorite roasted sweet potato into emergency food' was catchy and full of Yakiimo-san's personality. While it is a fun read, there are also many parts that serve as a reference for disaster preparedness.
The punchline right after the winner was decided was so well-executed that I laughed.

*As an aside, I thought it was like Noyagi-san's 'Zenbu Series'.
