[Report] I have planned my first "Homeschooling Chat Session," something I've wanted to do for a long time!

Hello, this is Madoriko.

Today, I would like to share a story about taking a huge step forward for myself.

I have finally planned an online chat session that I had always thought about doing in my head, but kept finding excuses not to!

The title is "What is Homeschooling? Chat Session."

Why did I decide to hold this session?

When I listen to the voices of mom friends in various places,

  • "My child doesn't seem to fit in anywhere, so they end up staying home..."

  • "Should I quit my job?"

  • "They only ever play games or watch YouTube..."

I hear these kinds of worries very often. I myself have held onto various anxieties while working for a long time.

"With my experience in school non-attendance and the path I've followed, perhaps it could be a hint for someone else." Once I thought that, I couldn't just sit still anymore.

If it feels like volunteering or PTA activities, it's okay to do it, right? This isn't a side job, is it? It's okay! I found a compromise within myself!

What I focused on was "keeping the barrier to entry as low as possible."

Because it's my first time planning this, I've packed in these features so that participants can join with peace of mind.

  • 60 minutes on Google Meet, free of charge!

  • Limited to the first 3 people (a very small group of 4 including me), so you can talk without worrying about others.

  • Listening-only participation is OK, voice-only is OK.

  • Joining late or leaving early is OK.

  • Last-minute cancellations like "I can't make it today after all!" are perfectly fine.

  • Pajamas are fine, wearing a face mask is fine, and doing housework while joining is fine!

And for the date and time, I chose weekends from 8:00 PM to 9:00 PM.

I decided on this date hoping that even a little bit, it might help lighten someone's heart or provide support before September 1st.

With so many firsts, I'm feeling nervous, excited, and anxious...!

Actually, there are many things I challenged myself to do for the first time with this project.

  1. Using Canva to create a flyer!
I made a flyer packed with a message for "moms and dads with children who can't leave the house," an introduction of myself, "Madoriko," and what I want to do.

  2. I made a Google Form for the first time!
I had been putting off making a Google Form while thinking "I want to try it," but this time I finally managed to make one on my own (I did it!).

  3. I included the QR code for my official LINE account!
To expand my reach beyond just this note, I added a LINE QR code to the flyer.

  4. I sent it to the organizer of a support group for parents of school-refusing children who has been helping me!
Since this is a great senior who has always helped me and has many connections, and who had told me, "Show me the flyer when it's done," I nervously took the plunge and sent it. It feels like I've passed the baton to the outside world with the intention of "borrowing their strength."

The "words" that pushed me forward

I was able to take action this far thanks to a series of warm words that happened to come my way.

Yesterday, when I was messaging a friend from my technical college days (who is working hard as an independent), she said, "You're a positive monster, you know!" I realized, "Oh, so I'm seen as super positive by others!" and it became interesting, making me think, "Well then, let's give it a try!"

And this morning, while listening to YouTube by Katsuma-san, whom I love, she said something that really hit home.

"Rather than regretting not doing something you want to do, even if it doesn't go well, you'll be able to let it go if you try. Because you'll know what it was like, you'll stop wasting time worrying about it."

From Kazuyo Katsuma's YouTube channel

"I've wanted to do this for about 30 years but never did, but if I try it and it doesn't work out, I can just draw a line there!" It really resonated with me. It's the same as when I quit my job to become independent, thinking, "If it doesn't work out, I can just look for something else."

Just give it a try

Instead of just spinning ideas around in my head, I actually took action, made a flyer, created a Google Form, and sent it out to people.

For me, this is a huge, huge step on the "path to independence" that I've been talking about on this Note for so long, and I finally took the plunge.

I don't know if I'll do it well, but for now, I'm going to enjoy taking this step.

Just as I was leisurely soaking in a sense of accomplishment,
I unexpectedly received my first application.
Huh? Huh? Um, the reply, using Madoriko's email address, the reply is... um...

I'm flustered, but
this is the moment of 0→1
...Am I going to be okay? Will I manage somehow? (Heart pounding)
