Synopsis
Rocky Balboa, who lives in the downtown area of Philadelphia, lived his life to the fullest while working as a third-rate boxer in small matches.
It is not a glamorous life, but he has feelings for Adrian, a kind-hearted woman who works at a pet shop, and lives without losing his own sense of integrity.
One day, world heavyweight champion Apollo Creed nominates the unknown Rocky as his opponent for a commemorative match.
To the public, it is a challenge with no chance of winning.
However, Rocky heads toward a fight that will define his life, in order to prove that he is a man who can stay standing until the very end.
"Rocky" is one of my favorite movies.
No matter how many times I watch it, it stirs my heart.
No matter how many times I watch it, tears fall the moment the final bell rings.
I think the reason this movie moves me so much is because it is not just a boxing movie.
While it is a story about exchanging punches in the ring, what it is truly depicting is a man standing up for himself without giving up on his life.
Rocky is not a perfect hero.
He is neither skillful nor sophisticated.
But he is endearing.
A man who was not expected much by anyone, and who could not even fully believe in his own potential, faces his life in earnest for the first time when faced with a single chance.
That image touches my heart in a way I cannot help.
And what I truly love about this movie is the romance between Rocky and Adrian.
I think it is truly beautiful that such a quiet and gentle love is depicted within the intense world of boxing.
I especially love the short date scene at the skating rink.
On the ice with no spectators.
Adrian skating awkwardly.
Rocky watching over her gently.
There are no flashy words or dramatic staging.
But in that short time, the warmth of their hearts slowly drawing closer is certainly captured.
It is a scene like a small light lit on a winter night.
It is quiet, warm, and so endearing that it makes my heart ache.
Every time I see that scene,
I feel that "these two will surely support each other and live on."
I think that for Rocky, Adrian is not so much a goddess of victory as she is someone who accepts his entire existence.
And for Adrian, too, Rocky is the person who leads her out of her shell.
They do not seem to be trying to change each other, but rather gently awakening the courage that was sleeping within one another.
The relationship between Rocky and Mickey is also unforgettable.
Mickey is a trainer, a mentor, and a father-like figure to Rocky.
However, that relationship is not beautiful from the start.
There are words that hurt each other.
There is anger, too.
There are times when we cannot be honest.
The scene where Rocky chases after Mickey's retreating back after they have a heated argument is one that moves me every time I watch it.
That reconciliation scene holds a deep affection that cannot be fully explained in words.
Sometimes, it is only when someone truly believes in us that we first realize the power within ourselves.
The figures of Rocky and Mickey quietly teach us that.
The greatness of "Rocky" lies in the fact that it doesn't just depict winning.
Rather, what this film truly depicts is the nobility of a person who has kept losing, yet still remains standing until the end.
Even if knocked down, stand up again.
Even if hurt, look forward.
Even if someone laughs at you, do not give up on your own life.
The sight of Rocky continuing to stand in the ring is life itself.
More than winning, it was about not running away.
It was about standing until the end.
It was about burning through one's life enough to be able to shout the name of the person you love.
I believe that is where the miracle of this film lies.
Every time I watch "Rocky," I feel like I want to try my best once more.
It's okay to be uncool.
It's okay to cry.
It's okay to take the long way around.
Even so, do not step down from the ring of your own life.
"Rocky" is a film that reminds me of that strength again and again.
That is why I love this movie.
It is one of my favorite movies, which I cherish from the bottom of my heart.
A soul that did not run away strikes the heart more than winning
