How to write a haiku from a song [Spring Version]
Well, this spring, "Haiku from a song" has gained wings of freedom and taken flight into the vast sky.
When I introduced a simple way to write haiku using 12 syllables + a seasonal word in my Shirokuma Cup article, it was quite well-received.
So...
I haven't written any spring pieces at all yet... My mind has been leaning a bit toward tanka lately.
At this rate, I might not be able to write any haiku? 😱
With that said,
this time I'd like to introduce how to write them using spring songs,
and try writing some haiku together ( • ̀ω•́ )✧
First, when I think of spring songs, this one comes to mind.
From my favorite spring song, Yorushika's "Spring Thief",
I will select some lyrics that catch my eye.
Viaduct, blue peeking through, blinking, troublesome
Even today turns into the past, waiting for the wind
Forgetting even my voice, goodbye
Flowers just falling, clear weather, spring blizzard
Flower viewing, scent of spring, summer is coming, you peek through
Meeting in spring, tree shade, forgetting to breathe, gaps in the flowers
Scattering, going to meet you, sigh, ending
Time scatters, love, lacking words
Rhyming, like words, fluttering, leaves remain, end of spring
From these, I will combine them like a puzzle to create 12 syllables in order to write a haiku. I will also change the endings depending on the case.
Even today turns into the past
Forgetting the voice of goodbye
Flowers falling fluttering in a sigh
Viaduct, both rhymes and words
I will insert my favorite seasonal word into the last five syllables.

There, I've already written 4 haiku (｡･ω･)ﾉ
Actually, while I was listening to the song and looking at the lyrics, I was like 🤔 hmm, but once I extracted the words from the lyrics, I was able to do it right away. For the seasonal words, I chose words I liked that were neither too far from nor too close to the content.
However, some people might feel hesitant to submit something that is too close to the lyrics. In such cases, it might be good to change it into your own words from here.
Another way is the method of reading the song's content carefully and creating it in your own words. Simply put, the mainstream interpretation of this song is a 'love story that compares life to cherry blossoms.'
Flying petals, falling blossoms, I stand still, forgetting even to breathe
This beautiful video is truly flying petals, falling blossoms. | 'Hikarakka' (flying petals, falling blossoms) is a seasonal word that describes 'the state of cherry blossoms scattering endlessly after their peak.' However, this haiku is not quite there yet; I want to spend a little more time refining it.
Furthermore, I will add a lower seven-seven phrase to make it a tanka.
Flying petals, falling blossoms, I stand still, forgetting to breathe
Please, do not steal spring away from me
And for the senryu, let's focus on cherry blossoms and love.
The way they scatter, both love and cherry blossoms are beautiful
Even though I want to stay by your side forever and not have them scatter
Like this, I think it's relatively easy to create one by matching the mood of the song or borrowing words from it.
Of course, it's fine to do it your own way✨
It also seems like good practice for putting things into the form of haiku or tanka❣️
