[Amano Writing Club] I'm Poofing Away | Short Short
Title: I'm Poofing Away
In that village, saying "I'm poofing away"
wasn't just about leaving.
When one's role is over,
a person leaves the stage without a sound.
To pass the story on to the next person.
Tonight, it was my turn.
By my bedside was the
sleep pillow passed down through generations.
When you fall asleep,
only your consciousness unravels thinly,
allowing you to slip out from the edge of the world.
"Well then, I'm counting on you."
The sound of my own voice saying that and smiling
felt a bit like someone else's.
Sleep.
Deep, deep.
The moment I closed my eyes,
the world quietly began to change seats.
Someone steps forward,
someone retreats into the shadows.
When I woke up in the morning,
the village hadn't changed at all.
Only my name
was no longer needed.
That is fine.
I fulfilled my role properly.
The story continues.
I am—
poof, gone.
