【7days Book Cover Challenge ✴︎ Day 3】
The third book for the 7-Day Book Cover Challenge is,
----------
Written by Kathy Willis / Supervised and translated by Taeko Tada / Illustrated by Katie Scott
"Botanicum: Welcome to the Museum" (Choubunsha, 2017)
Original title: "Botanicum" (Big Picture Press, 2016)
----------

It is one book in the 'Welcome To The Museum' series, which also includes 'Animalium' (translated by Choubunsha), 'Dinosaurium', 'Historium', and 'Planetarium'.
'Botanicum' is a coined word, meaning a museum of plants or a botanical museum.
Although it is formatted as a picture book and includes furigana for all kanji in the Japanese version, the content is authentic, supervised by Kew Gardens in the UK (that greenhouse is a must-see from an art history perspective!). While there is no Japanese version of the workbook (second photo), it clearly shows the role of museums in 'education' (from a curator's perspective, lol).
And above all, the illustrations are captivating! Postcards are also available (second photo).

By the way, for the original book, I purchased the limited edition with a black background on the cover (the contents are the same).
If you compare the foil stamping of 'Welcome To The Museum' on the top right of that book with the Japanese version (third photo), you can see that the Japanese version is a misbound copy with a failed foil stamp (it was heavy, so I bought it from an online bookstore).
I consider this a stroke of fate, and since it's interesting, I'm keeping it instead of exchanging it.
↑ Symptoms of someone who is sick with a love for books as physical objects😅

My aromatherapy activity name, Atelier Botanicum @atelierbotanicum https://www.instagram.com/atelierbotanicum/ was named after this book that I love.
I hope to become a workshop—a place where people can use the wonderful gifts of plants, such as aromatherapy, herbs, flower essences, spices, etc.—while sharing the excitement and joy one feels at a museum, from various perspectives...
Especially at times like these, I believe that scents, which reach the brain directly without the need for language, can do something, so I want to do something useful...
And now, for the baton...
I would like to pass it to Hiroko Kajitani, an aroma blending designer colleague who loves scents and delicious food @memories_of_scents https://www.instagram.com/memories_of_scents/ .
She is a wonderful person who knows a lot about the excitement of the gifts of plants.
If you have the time, please consider it.

The 7-Day Book Cover Challenge is a challenge to contribute to the spread of reading culture. The way to participate is to post one book you like every day for 7 days. You upload an image of just the cover without any explanation about the book, and invite one friend each day to participate in this challenge. It is okay to skip it or not pass the baton.
