As long as you have respect for others, conversation becomes enjoyable
I heard from someone that they absolutely refuse to use the word "omae" (a condescending way to say 'you').
They say that word only serves to look down on the other person, and it should not be used even if the person is younger.
That is absolutely true.
Choosing one's words may seem difficult, but I don't think it is.
If you have a feeling of respect for the other person, the appropriate words should naturally come to mind.
If you have even the slightest desire to assert dominance over the person you are talking to, no matter how careful you are, condescending words will slip out in the edges of your speech.
In the first place, is there any need to assert dominance in a conversation?
In business situations, you have to advance the conversation while negotiating with the other party so that you can gain an advantage.
Sometimes, the conversation may become aggressive.
If you don't assert dominance, you might find yourself in a tight spot.
However, business and the feeling of respecting others are separate things.
In everyday conversation, there is no need to negotiate with the other person.
I hear it often lately, but perhaps due to the influence of comedians, there are people who try to provoke laughter by making remarks that belittle others.
They will mock someone they were just talking to in a friendly manner, turning on them in an instant just to become the center of the conversation.
They don't even care about the feelings of the person being mocked.
Such conversations are becoming like a part of Japanese culture.
I do not say things that belittle people.
That is why I find such conversations extremely unpleasant, and I have no desire to talk for long.
I believe that talking to someone who cannot respect others is a waste of time because we are not on the same wavelength.
Conversely, conversations with people who are on the same wavelength and respect others are lively.
Because we respect each other, no condescending words ever come out.
That is why I come to like that person and want to talk more.
It is a synergistic effect.
Isn't this what it truly means to enjoy a conversation?
