The Typhoon in Our House
My middle son, who is in middle nursery school, gets way too excited and becomes more intense than usual when friends come over to play.
Recently, it has been raining non-stop and we haven't been able to play outside, so since he seemed bored, I decided to invite his friends over to play Mario Kart together.
"Hey, when are my friends coming? Now?"
"Not yet, in about an hour."
……Five minutes later.
"Hey?! Are they coming now?!"
"Still not yet, in about an hour."
"What?! That's so slow!"
He seemed unable to wait.
And finally, the moment the doorbell rang,
"Yes!!"
he shouted and dashed to the entrance.
I followed him, laughing at his reverse doorbell-dash.
"Yo! Let's play!" my middle son said, somehow mimicking his older brother's tone.
"""Excuse us!""" his friends arrived with big smiles.
My husband was away that day for a local gathering.
There were 10 of us in total: my second-grade eldest son and one of his friends, my middle son and two of his friends, my 1-year-old and 2-year-old daughters, and three moms.
Since there are five of us just in our family, it always gets as lively as a little party whenever we invite friends over.
"Everyone!! Let's go play upstairs!!"
my middle son called out triumphantly.
However,
"We're going to play games!"
only my 2-year-old daughter followed him.
My middle son looked a little lonely after having his enthusiasm dampened.
The next moment, he suddenly let out a war cry and started running around the house.
Like a steam locomotive,
he accelerated while puffing out steam.
He jumped onto a chair, did a little dance on the raised floor, circled the kitchen, and threw a doll at his older brother to challenge him to a battle.
"Stop it!!" his older brother and friends replied, which only made him boil over even more.
The moms are used to this scene, so we don't even pay attention anymore.
But at that moment, my middle son, who had jumped onto a chair, lost his balance and tumbled off.
Fortunately, he landed safely, but my 2-year-old daughter who was next to him was startled and started crying.
"That's dangerous, so let's stop doing that,"
the moms soothed him.
Even though he knew he was in the wrong, he was upset at being scolded by three moms.
He made a fist and punched the chair!
"Ouuuuch!!!!"
Leaving behind a death cry, my middle son disappeared somewhere.
"………Pfft."
Once someone burst out laughing, there was no stopping it.
We couldn't stop laughing at the whole series of events.
After things calmed down a bit, I went to check on my middle son, and
he was sulking while playing with his Paw Patrol toys.
"Your hand must hurt, right? Don't you think it's better not to punch the chair?"
"But it made me fall."
"I see, I see. Well, I'll comfort your hand, so let's comfort the chair together later, okay?"
"……Okay."
My middle son's small reply was just so adorable that
I couldn't help but give him a big hug.
My middle son is still only four.
The way he throws his whole body into both joy and anger is truly endearing.
I hope I can watch over his future rebellious phase as gently as I did today.
I participated in Chiaki-san's project.
It's a wonderful theme that allows for a lot of engagement with children!
Thank you as always.
