The Benefits of Chatting

Fortunately, I am able to be included in the conversations of many different people.

I listen to all sorts of stories from all sorts of people: funny stories, worries, serious topics, relationship issues, and romantic tales.

Come to think of it, my few male friends don't really chat much, and I find myself feeling that men's conversations are boring because the genres are so fixed.

✅ The compatibility of broad and shallow human interaction with girls' talk

Since I was little, I grew up in an environment where I was surrounded by girls and listened to their conversations.

Because my mother was busy, it was mainly my grandmother who took care of me.

My grandmother would often gather her neighborhood friends for tea parties.

In the corner, I would snack on tea treats and listen to their chatter while drawing or playing with Lego blocks.

This was my debut into girls' talk.

After my grandmother passed away, my mother was one of three sisters, so I was a child who grew up listening to their sisterly conversations while playing.

My father was a workaholic and was almost never home, so I grew up almost entirely among women.

Then came high school. Because the school had been an all-girls school until a few years prior, there were very few boys.

I became the president of the art club, and I ended up leading a club where all the underclassmen were girls—an incredible environment.

It was a sports-oriented art club, so the teacher was Spartan. I managed the club president role while soothing the girls who were arguing, suffering from stomach aches, and breaking out in hives every day.

Years passed, and then came my wife's job transfer away from home.

Also, while raising my children, I made friends with other moms at daycare.

By this time, I had become a person who felt no resistance at all to chatting among women; in fact, I felt right at home.

✅ The benefit of calming the mind

A characteristic of girls' talk is that it doesn't just stick to fixed topics, but covers a wide variety of subjects.

One moment you might be excited talking about romance, but if someone mentions a delicious restaurant they are curious about, the conversation will suddenly shift to the food at that restaurant.

That kind of back-and-forth conversation, like a ride at an amusement park, suited me perfectly and satisfied my naturally curious nature.

But it wasn't just interesting; what I realized there was that by talking, I could vent some of the hazy, unsettled feelings in my heart and feel refreshed.

Humans, just like their bodies, feel a sense of blockage when they bottle things up in their hearts, which becomes painful.

However, by chatting like this, that haziness is vented, and I feel quite refreshed.

That's why I realized that one of the reasons grandmothers, my mother's sisters, my club juniors, and my mom friends talked so much was because of this benefit.

I also remember how many times my heart felt refreshed by being included in those conversations.

And I also learned that in order to be heard, I need to be a good listener myself.

✅Summary

I love listening to all kinds of people chat.

It comes from my natural curiosity and the environment I grew up in.

Anyway, I find it fun to listen to various stories and think about them in different ways.

I think the reason I love reading is that it feels like listening to the author chat.
