The story of how I found true 'satisfaction' after giving up on the 'perfect day'.
Before you go to bed, do you ever find yourself grading your day, wondering, 'What score would I give myself today?'
There are days when you complete your entire task list but still deduct points, thinking, 'I could have done more.'
Conversely, there are days when things don't go as planned, but you want to give yourself a gold star because, 'I saw my child smile, so that's good enough.'
Where exactly does this difference come from?
Between solo parenting, a full-time job, and a side hustle.
I used to be someone who was constantly chased by time and drowning in tasks.
Even so, there was never a day I could proudly call 'perfect,' and I would always fall asleep counting only the things I 'didn't manage to finish.'
This is the true nature of 'satisfaction' that I discovered after much trial and error.
It was a very simple answer.
✅ The true nature of a 'satisfying day'
To start with the conclusion, for me, a 'satisfying day' is a day where“my values and my actions for the day align perfectly.”
I, who love efficiency, came up with a surprising time-saving trick and finished my tasks comfortably.
I, who wish to be of service to others, listened to someone's troubles and received a heartfelt 'thank you.'
On days like that, even if my body is tired, my heart feels quietly fulfilled.
Perhaps it is not so much a 'day where I finished all my To-Dos,' but rathera 'day where I felt the meaning of what I was doing (ToFeel).'
✅ Is that 'obsession' a shackle? Or a weapon?
'You're quite particular, aren't you?' This is something I've been told often since I was young.
The margins in a document, the commas in a sentence, the way I organize my folders...
The trivial details that many people laugh off, saying, 'You don't need to worry about that,' are major issues I cannot overlook.
This trait could perhaps be dismissed as 'hyperfocus,' a characteristic of ADHD.
But I believe that this 'obsession' is my own strength.
However, there is one condition. It is to keep asking,'Who is this obsession for?'
An obsession meant only to satisfy one's own mood becomes a 'shackle' that tires out those around you.
However, if the desire to 'create something I can truly be satisfied with' leads to value for someone else, it transforms into a powerful 'weapon.'
In the Notion construction service I provide, I spend time on the obsession of 'balancing appearance and ease of use' because I know it directly connects to the essential value for the client of it being 'easy to see' and 'easy to use.'
The obsession of 'not cutting corners until I am satisfied' is my greatest source of energy.
✅ Summary
A perfect 100-point day probably almost never comes.
So, why don't we stop grading ourselves?
What is important is not the score, but raising your'sensitivity to satisfaction.'The compass for that is your own unique 'obsession'.
Because you have specific standards, you know what you are aiming for.
Because you know what you are aiming for, your actions gain meaning.
When you can take meaningful action, you can feel truly satisfied from the heart.
And, the accumulation of that satisfaction fosters trust in yourself.
If you are currently feeling like you are losing sight of yourself amidst developmental traits, conflicts with your environment, or the busyness of daily life, please remember this.
You don't have to deny your standards.
Even if there are days when you don't feel satisfied, you don't have to blame yourself.
Both are important sensations that color your own unique life in a rich way.
Even on an imperfect day, please try asking yourself just one thing at the end: "What was the most 'me' part of today?".
That small discovery should significantly boost your sense of satisfaction and become the strength to move forward into tomorrow.
Let's carefully gather up those small moments of satisfaction.
Beyond that, your own 'life of deep flavor' is waiting for you.
