The Nature of What We Understand and What We Don't
There are things that people can understand easily, and things that they cannot grasp no matter how many times they are explained. Where does that difference come from?
Perhaps it is not just a matter of differences in knowledge or experience.
Each person's habits of thought and emotional wounds from past experiences can unconsciously influence how they see and feel things.
Why does that person get angry over something like that? Why can't they understand how I feel?
When you are troubled by human relationships or your own way of being in life, pausing to explore what you find easy to understand and what you find difficult might be a chance to gain a new perspective.
It is like a journey to discover the true nature of the sensitivity and insensitivity that lie dormant within you.
✅ Areas where your sensors are sharp — Why do you feel things so sensitively?
There are places in our hearts equipped with extremely sharp sensors.
Sensing subtle changes that others don't notice, or deeply perceiving the emotions behind words. I believe there are two main backgrounds to this sensitivity.
One is areas where there are still unhealed emotional wounds.
It is like a healing cut. Even if you are not usually aware of it, a sharp pain shoots through it if something touches it even slightly.
Because there is pain, we unconsciously keep our nerves on edge to protect that part.
If you have been deeply hurt by a word someone said in the past, you might react excessively to similar words or situations.
If you have been betrayed, you might not be able to accept someone's kindness at face value and instead look for hidden motives.
That pain can become an empathy that allows you to deeply understand the similar pain of others, but at the same time, it can also be a cause that makes you tired and timid.
The other is a delicacy that could be called an innate talent.
This is not a state of being hurt by someone, but rather a state where that part of the skin is naturally thin and delicate.
For example, just as our eyeballs can sensitively capture even the slightest light to demonstrate the ability to see, there are people who are naturally sharp in certain senses.
Being good at reading the nuances of human emotions, being able to be moved from the heart by beautiful things, or having the power to intuitively see through the essence of things.
In society, this might be perceived as being too sensitive or overthinking, which can cause difficulties in living.
However, if you change your perspective, it is a special talent that is yours alone, unlike anyone else's.
That delicacy becomes a source of wonderful creativity and deep insight.
✅ Areas where you feel nothing due to thick skin — Why can you be so calm?
On the other hand, there are parts of the heart that are surprisingly tough and do not waver at minor things.
Being able to stay calm in situations where others are panicking, or letting criticism from others slide off like a willow branch.
This insensitivity can also be considered to have two aspects.
One is armor called strength, built through numerous experiences.
It is similar to how a broken bone becomes thicker and stronger in the process of healing.
As you repeat the same mistakes many times or are exposed to harsh criticism, your heart becomes tempered against that stimulation.
For example, someone who was bad at speaking in front of others might become able to speak confidently even if they are nervous after gaining experience in presentations.
This could be called a state where calluses have formed on the heart through experience.
Or, it is the same as the soles of your feet, which step on the ground every day, gradually becoming hard so that you can walk without worrying about small pebbles.
This insensitivity is a strength that is essential for us to overcome harsh realities, learn, and grow.
The other is the driving force called the power of insensitivity, necessary to move forward.
If humans reacted sensitively to everything they saw and heard, they would be unable to take a single step forward due to information overload.
The power to intentionally choose not to feel the noise or minor obstacles around you when pushing toward a goal.
This is a very important ability for realizing dreams and accomplishing great things.
Even if people around you laugh and say it's impossible, you can push forward on the path you believe in.
You can focus on essential issues without worrying about minor procedures or the entanglements of human relationships.
Because of this insensitivity, we can gain the driving force to carve out our own lives without losing to adversity.
✅Summary
Our hearts are complex and beautiful things, where highly sensitive and delicate parts coexist with surprisingly strong and insensitive ones.
Understanding which parts of yourself are "sensitive" and which are "insensitive" is nothing less than obtaining your own compass for walking the path called life.
Using your sensitivity (talent) to be close to someone's heart, and using your insensitivity (strength) to overcome difficult walls.
At times, you may be deeply hurt because of your sensitivity, or you may hurt someone else because of your insensitivity.
However, knowing both of these characteristics and accepting them both as important parts of yourself.
And choosing which characteristic to utilize depending on the situation.
Isn't that where the depth and interest of "living" lie?
The things you "can understand" and the things you "cannot understand"—
that boundary line might just be the map of your own heart.
